How has he been doing this season at CB?

At the beginning of the season I stated that I thought he would make a better FS than CB in the NFL because he has good instincts but doesn't possess the top end speed to keep up with good NFL receivers.

I remember watching the Chargers-Jets game and Vincent Jackson beating him on a go-route on the right sideline but Lowery made a diving play and tipped the ball away. Great play but it highlighted his lack of top end speed and Vincent Jackson, relative to other NFL WRs, isn't even that fast.

I went to the Bengals-Jets game - repping the Curtis Martin jersey - but I did not focus on him.

Does anyone have anything to say on the matter/about Lowery?

I think he has shown he can be a good cornerback, but I still wonder if he could be a better free safety. He almost seems like the perfect Cover-2 CB, but I am not so sure about a corner for a man-cover oriented team. When Justin Miller comes back healthy I would like to see the CS experiment with him at FS a little bit, just to know if it is possible at all. This way we can determine whether we need to draft a FS or a CB come next April.

Lowery has been great, starting since day one.
I hope they don't try and move him, so many experiments like that have gone wrong.

From what I've seen, he's played to the level of a good top first round pick. If he's already a better player than Justin Miller this early in his career, you'd have have to be insane to take him out of the line-up.

Speed, especially top end speed, is much more important to a FS than a CB. CB's need to be agile (with good short burst speed) but by far most important is to have good technique.

Lowery has been fantastic...I think one of his strengths that go un-noticed, is his open field tackling ability. He is playing, like mentioned above, a first round draft pick. He has been nothing but solid, and I really look for him to get better and better. Despite him being tagged as "slow", he has shown smarts and quickness on the field. So whatever he is lacking in speed, he is making up for it with his ability to read plays, and tackle with the best of them. Revis and Lowery will be a dangerous tandem for years to come.

I doubt he's any slower than Charles Woodson and Al Harris on the Packers and they're considered to be two of the best CBs in the league.

Lowery has been good as a rookie, but mediocre over all. Hes has a few great plays, but has suffered a few bumps down the rookie road. With Revis being so shut down, you cant say Lowery has been great and have the Jets still ranked 28th in the Pass.

With that said, I am happy with his progress and potential. He is better then what Miller would give us and in no way am I saying he should be replaced. He will be a stud. As of now, hes being shown the ropes.

By far Lowery is a good addition playing better then our number one pick for sure.. People forget about game speed and some people are not rockets. He has gotten beat deep a couple of times but hey every good db has in there career. For his forth round selection who could argue his value for us he is playing above and beyond the call of duty. He should be on the bench and gholston should be the talk of the town. But we already know his ordeal. I'm happy with his performance he is a ball hawk and will only get better. Reminds me of Ty Law wasn't fast but once all the intangibles are mastered he will be a shut down corner. Revis had the same growing pains now look at him

I agree with this. To say he's been great is an exaggeration. He's done well considering he's a 4th round rookie.

Here's all you need to know. There were 5 cornerbacks picked in the first round of the 2008 draft, Lowrey was a 4th round pick. Here's the stats to date (in order of highest selection)

Leodis McKelvin, Bills: 7 tackles (tkl), 1 forced fumble (ff), 0 passes defensed (pd), 0 interceptions (int). McKelvin also returns kickoffs, has a 25.6 yard average, no TDs
    *Rogers-Cromartie, Cards: 7tkl, 0 ff, 3 pd, 0 int
*Aquib Talib, Bucs: 8 tkl, 0 ff, 3 pd, 2 int
*Mike Jenkins, Cowboys: 6 tkl, 0 ff, 1 pd, 0 int
*Antoine Cason, Chargers: 28 tkl (1 for a loss), 1 ff, 4 pd, 1 int
Dwight Lowery, Jets: 22 tkl, 1 ff, 7 pd, 0 int

    * - Played in six games thus far

so lowery tanks 3rd behind Cason and Talib. You can see with Lowery's #s that they do like to pick on him... granted, why would they throw the ball to the other side of the field.

Well, depends on what measure you're looking at. Lowery has less interceptions that Talib but more tackles and passes defensed. I don't think you can assume he's getting picked on more based on these numbers. How do we know that McKelvin and Talib aren't giving up a big number of catches and are being picked on even more, hence their low passes defensed numbers?

I think you can say Lowery has been great ! A 4th rounder starting from day one.
The Jets may rank 28th against the pass, but that is because of the poor coverage of the safties up the middle not the corners.
    Where are you #25 ?

Wow I didn't even see McKelvin at the top.... Lowery would be 4th at this point. I'm factoring in pure ability and athleticism. I think the 3 above him in the long run will be better but not by a large margin... Lowery will be a starter for a while in this league, but when he gets older he'll be a safety. A good one too.

I think it's fair to say he's playing way above his draft status, but he gets beat his fair share of times. I think he's over rated on here.

I think that the pre-season added to the folklore of Lowery when he picked off the end zone pass and returned the punt for a TD... I wouldn't mind seeing him take a PR in a game at least once this season.

I'm not a fan of him going down on a freak PR injury. I like him just fine where he is at the moment.

Last time I remember Revis was around the same speed as Lowery right around that 4.5 speed.. He meaning revis wasn't all that great last year as a rookie. And is doing okay this year as time goes on they only get better and more confident. Soon they'll be timing plays and pickin them off.. There was one year I think the year before last when the) would get to the second level and nobody made a tackle. Though our pass defense is 28th our tackling skills are far better
