Last year the Pats had the best single season passing attack in NFL history. Teams couldn't beat a rare passing attack like that until the Giants came around and started giving Brady the business.

I do agree that the Jets should utilize the pass as their primary weapon of choice since it is the strongest aspect of the offense, no question there.

All I'm debating is that Jones is the best running back on this team, and he needs to get a majority of the touches.

As far as the 25 carry argument is concerned, I believe that will happen when our team can begin putting together more consistent drives.

What the heck are you talking about.. When does madden football come on real TV this is what's on the televison every time the Jets take the field!! Tj is the back and we will just be happy with getting nothing done since were waiting for TJ to get his proper amount of touches. And if you give tj all those carries like you want by time the playoffs come we'll have us a injured running back. A running back ran into the ground just like herm did with curtis martin and is trying to do with LJ..

Please do not ever mention a guy like Barry Sanders in the same post with Jones again, that is football sacrilege. Sanders would have taken the run-blocking the Jets have given Jones this year and turned it into something impressive, because he had the ability to improvise and had arguably the best vision of any runningback to ever play. He did much more with worse blocking and less chances in the red zone. It's not like Jones hasn't been given any holes, he just hasn't been given the best blocking. He's had holes and failed to make something out of it at the second level.

Blanket-blaming the O-line is the wrong way to approach this. I have issues with his all-around game, because even when he makes it to the second level, and this has happened due to actually getting blocking from the O-line, he ends up taking a 7-8 yard gain when he could have put a move on someone or lowered his shoulder into them and kept his feet moving and turned it into an easy 1st down and more.

The offensive line is part of the problem, but they have done their jobs at times and Jones just failed to do his own. I can't believe you don't see this.

    1. Giants are not the first team that showed how Pats could be beat. Eagles were. Had it not been for that moron Feeley, Eagles would have won it. The problem is still the same: Pats OL is severely undersized. The entire nation saw how Jamal Williams owned the middle of Pats OL during their goal stand during the MNF past week. (But then this is not even relevant to this thread.)

    2. I tend to agree with abyzmul here, in that current Jets OL is built for passing, not for rushing. For instance, during Marty's last year at Chargers, they showed nasty running attack - when they were running the ball, the bolts OL would push the LOS about 2 to 2.5 yards up at the point of attack. All Tomlinson had to do was to find extra 2 yards to make it 2nd and 5-6. By the same token, if Jets can push up the LOS at the point of attack like that, TJ would be a fantastic option. As it stands, no. That's not what's happening - and that's disappointing me to a degree. If Brandon Moore was tad bit more stout at the point of attack, maybe Jets could pull Faneca to the right - and that's when Jones get a free 2 yards like Tomlinson did. (I still hate Brandon Moore. What a sack of shit he is.)

    3. I think it is still possible to give Jones 20-25 carries a game - just keep in mind, that means Favre has to be that much more deadly when he throws, because he's going to have to be if he's to deliver from 3rd and 7s and 8s all game.

Lemme get it right if things ran your way we would run TJ for 400 - 480 carries a season since you think he needs 25-30 carries divide that by 1000 yards as a milestone/incentive for 2.1 to 2.5 a carry at minimum thas what you call suicide and well see TJ down the line walking with crutches if not in a wheel chair! I hate to be your prize pony they would take me out back a put a bullet in me in the end!

I don't see it because I have seen more than enough times where Jones has gotten the job done. Every running back is going to miss a hole once in a while or get tripped up, Jones is no exception.

One of the articles that was posted recently pointed out that one of Faneca's strengths in Pittsburgh was the counter play and that the Jets have barely run that at all. I agree that there is blame to go around, and I'm not a blind Jones faithful. Of course I'd love to see an explosive dominant running back in our backfield... I don't think that is the big problem though.

I think our only difference here is where the blame lies. For me, I see it like this:

    1) Coaching
    2) Blocking
    3) Jones

From your perspective, I'd say Jones is #1, with the other 2 being a distant 2nd and 3rd. I just disagree with that completely. Jones has proven in the past he can get the job done. If I were to make improvements in the running department, he'd be the last improvement I made upon.

Jones is averaging 3.8 YPC, not 2.1 to 2.5. A 3.8 YPC means that if you ran Jones 3 times in a row, on average he will get a first down every time.

EDIT: If Jones maintains his 3.8 YPC, he'll have 1000 yards at carry #264. At carry #400 he would have 1,520 yards - a damn good season in my opinion.

If the Jets were run my way, my distribution would look like this:

    1st Quarter:
Run / Pass - 50/50 - set the tone of the game.

    2nd Quarter:
Run / Pass - 40 / 60 - get aggressive, take shots at the defense. Try to take the lead, get up on the opposition going into halftime.

    3rd Quarter:
Run / Pass - 55 / 45 - assuming the Jets already have the lead, start to push for longer, more consistent drives. Keep the opposing defense on the field for as long as possible.

    4th Quarter:
Run / Pass - 75 / 25 - more assuming that the Jets still have a strong lead, pound the ball down the opponents throats and demoralize them, make them want to quit. Make them regret facing us.

Now, this is all assuming everything is going well for the Jets. I understand that if we're playing from behind, we're obviously not going to be the running the ball, that's just dopey.

The point is to attack the opposition all game long, first get the lead, then take their will to live.

Your right coaching, blocking, and then running.. But we need better production if we want to contend even in the afc east

I'm saying that you want to give him 400 + carries which at bare minimum for a 1000 yard would equal 2.1 to 2.5 to obtain this feat

By the way, the Jets have passed 163 times as opposed to rushing 118 times. So the playcalling breakdown is about 58% passing and 42% rushing.

I have to imagine that as the year goes on and it gets colder the rushing percentage will go up and the passing percentage will go down.

It will be up to Jones and the o-line to make that work.

I'm not ready to say Chatman is "THE MAN" , but did all the detractors see his performances while playing for the AWFUL :finssuck: last year?

given what was around him he played well and he ran hard!

Jones needs to rush 25-30 times a game. End of discussion.

TJ had a good game yesterday. I don't recognize that R B in our backfield.. If that was a constant thing and I mean as far as the 10 20 yard runs I'd be happy and eat my words.

What I've been trying to get at is that a lot of people want to blame Jones for our offensive troubles, but he is NOT the problem.

Go back and watch the game. How many times did Jones rip off a nice run, just for them to take him out and put in Leon, who, though capable, is not gaining momentum like Jones is. In my time watching the NFL, I've consistently seen that when running backs heat up, you feed them ball like they are a starving wild animal... and when they aren't getting any momentum whatsoever, then you use the change up back.

How many other times would the Jets have a nice run, and then follow it up with a predictable call the next, such as the exact same run? Where are the play actions? Where are the screens? Where are the draw plays? Hell, the few times they actually went and did something creative, it WORKED! Why only get creative once in a while?

If the play calling remains as static as it is, then it doesn't matter who is running or throwing the ball... we will lose.

    Jones = NOT THE PROBLEM.

i agree. Jones racked up 200 yards rushing but it barely did anything since our coaches were doing their best job possible to kill any of our drives with terrible playcalling. every single 3rd down was a 3rd and long for brett

Since the other thread got bumped, may as well bump this too...

Jones gets 25+ carries, we win and win big!
