If the 2008 Jets ineptness continues, the coaching staff undeniably on the chopping block, this would be disastrous to the Jets fans, here are some reasons: (in no particular order) A) The Vernon Gholston Project crumbles. This is another waste of a high draft pick. If Mangini gets canned because his 3-4 doesn't work and the Front Office wants to go back to the 4-3, Gholston must be retrained to play DE at the NFL level (and his learning curve seems to be long) or be traded to a team who wants to continue the VGP in a 3-4. Likely scenario he gets cut and signed by the Patriots, they wind up getting their guy after all. He's a monster and continues to kill the Jets for years. B) If Mangini goes, then a coach adept at the 3-4 must be brought in to prevent restaffing for the 4-3...I like Cowher (Favre said he didn't want to come to NY either...) But do we really want boring Steelers' type football every Sunday? D) The Jets sign Wade Phillips as Offensive Coordinator to deal with all of Brett Favre's turn overs. E) The Front office replacing the coaching staff clearly means their whole "win now" philosophy was a failure. Enter another "rebuild"/4 years of losing record scenario. The Jets draft a franchise QB in 2009 at #2 overall, it turns out he is Ryan Leaf's distant cousin. F) Mangini was supposed to be our guy! He was supposed to be our Bill Belichik, watered down, but nevertheless if Mangini can't rally the guys with Teddy Atlas and inspirational speeches, then who can? The Green is cursed! G) The Giants kick the Jets out of the new stadium because they stink up their locker rooms. PS - We're 4-3 and we turn the ball over the most in the NFL, be thankful we are over .500. If this team goes some things right (not likely?) they will be strong down the stretch. -end of transmission-
I hate your post..... This has nothing to do with putting our faith in Mangini as fans. I guess I just dont get your point.
What is it with the Gholston hate? Pace and Thomas have both been excellent this season. There has been no reason for Gholston to play! In fact, it is infuriating to me that they let Sione Pouha play as much as they do. It would infuriate me even more if they were taking the players off the field who are getting the job done right now. Gholston is a rookie and has plenty of time to come into his own before we need him to take over. It isn't like he is in there getting blown up. Thomas and Pace are in there kicking ass. Lay off on Gholston.
D) The Jets sign Wade Phillips as Offensive Coordinator to deal with all of Brett Favre's turn overs. Wade Phillips is DEFENSIVE coach, not offensive. In fact, he is currently callinig all the defensive plays for his cowboys. (He's a former Defensive Coordinator, etc)
Thumbs up thread. I say we bring in Mike Singletary for HC if Mangini sucks. He has fire. Did you guys hear him yell? He knows how to win.
First, the GM decides what type of coach to bring in and what players to keep/discard. Getting rid of Mangini does not threaten the progress of the Jets defense. In a way, if he fails this season, keeping him would be more detrimental.
Personally, I think maybe Rich Kotite is due for another chance at HC if we get rid of Mangini. That guy knows how to win some football.
I got the sarcasm. I think the Ryan Leaf's distant cousin gave it away. The only thing that is arguable in the *new word* comicalness *new word* is that rebuilding isn't necessary with this team. It only needs QB stability and a CS with balls and a desire to smack people around.
I like this post, I've been making the same point on this stupid message board for too long... All you Mangina fans? You better hope this team is as good as you thought it was a few seasons ago, otherwise, it's going to get ugly in Jets-Land. If Clemens is the Total Bust a lot of us are afraid he might be, and D'Brick is the bust everyone is claiming he is, and Thomas Jones is over the hill, and Bret Favre retires, and Coles is finished, and Shaun Ellis is "old" (as many posters who explain to me why Mangini got rid of whatever Parcells' players were still left), and the Jets' defense continues to play badly... Well, what's left?
I used to think Mangini was a good coach. I no longer do, and I hope I'm wrong. I know Woodhead Johnson said he's safe for 2009, and I'll resign myself to that. I expect this year we'll be 8-8 at best, and go down the tubes next year without Favre (maybe Ratliff will end up walking on water, who knows?). Then we start again. Just the way it goes.
or else what? I think he totally sucks as a head coach. He was the cheapest thing Johnson could find, as was Edwards before him. The next one will be too. Why the hell do you think Parcells only stayed around a year after Hess died?
The Jets hired Mangini; I think it's only fair to give him the chance to build a team. I don't agree with everything he's done, but he's made definite improvements in a lot of areas. Like you said, bring in a new coach and he'd have to start over, and we'd still be playing this ridiculous game. Coaching carousels don't work out too well either. btw, you're missing a "C)"
B) If Mangini goes, then a coach adept at the 3-4 must be brought in to prevent restaffing for the 4-3...I like Cowher (Favre said he didn't want to come to NY either...) But do we really want boring Steelers' type football every Sunday yeah who wants to be favorites to win the division every year.drafting in the top ten every other year is much more exciting
