Whats your Top 10? Here is mine: 1. Joe Namath- Broadway baby! 2. Wayne Chrebet- I love Wayne Chrebet, bottom line. 3. Curtis Martin-Future Hall of Famer. 4. Don Maynard- Great WR, Namath's Go-to-guy. Original Titan of NY. 5. Joe Klecko- Underrated Beast, should be in the Hall of Fame.
6. Brett Favre- Hey, he is Brett Favre. Something special will happen this year. 7. Chad Pennington-More playoff appearances than any other Jets QB. 8. John Riggins-Great player, sad the Jets let him go. 9. Mark Gastineau-Just a beast! 10. Keyshawn Johnson- For once, the Jets had a Top WR in the league.
love the list, but I think you have to argue for Al Toon and Wesley Walker to be on the list as well. Also Freeman Mcneil could easily be on the list. I too Love Wayne, but he doesnt deserve to be #2 if on the list at all. So Wayne, Keyshawn, and Favre could easily be replaced with Toon, Walker and Mcneil. I still love the list though.
Yeah, those were guys I was debating. Toon was actually #10 but I couldn't find a good enough picture of him. Haha. Yeah, thats why for an explanation I said I loved him. he was my favorite Jet since 1995 til retirement.
You are of course welcome to love Chrebet, but then this is a list of your 10 favorite Jets, not the top 10 Jets. Chrebet is not among the top 5 Jets receivers ever (Maynard, Toon, Sauer, Walker, Johnson, and Coles were all IMO clearly better) so he obviously can't be #2 overall. Favre is just silly, and while Chad might be the second-best Jets QB, that says a lot more about the state of Jets' QBs than about him. There are plenty of Jets players who were much better at what they did than Chad was at what he did after he got hurt in 2003. You've ignored the people in the trenches, other than the sexy Klecko and Gastineau picks, which is where I see the biggest gaps. Klecko certainly belongs there, but if you're going to talk about top Jets, you have to include Kevin Mawae. You've also left out oldtimers, which is understandable, but results in glaring omissions, since no "top Jets" list can possibly leave out Larry Grantham, Winston Hill, or Gerry Philbin.
Guys, guys..... first thing I said is Whats yours? So make it! Those are the Top 10 Jets to me, what are yours? Make a list! Why not? Gerry Philbin was great Statjeff, when I met him it was a great honor.
Not a terrible list but Al Toon and Wesley Walker both have to be on the list ahead of both Keyshawn and Chrebet. (I hear ya about having trouble finding the Al Toon pic) Also, Favre can't be on the list after 7 games, if he has a strong year this year and gets them on a nice playoff run, then he can be put on)
Fair enough: 1 - Namath 2 - Maynard 3 - Martin 4 - Mawae 5 - Klecko 6 - Hill 7 - Philbin 8 - Toon 9 - Grantham 10 - Sauer Toon and Sauer suffer from having shortened careers, but I am putting them here on the basis of peak performance.
Wesley Walker (WW85) not on a NY Jet Top list is Blasphemy. Al Toon & Freeman McNeil are musts too!! Anyone in their early 20's or younger never had the opportunity to see these 3 great players. Such a Shame.
Chad is good. Come on now! 02, 04, 06, good times! But yeah, the franchise is that bad, I did not just make up that stat.
Yeah, Wesley Walker and Al Toon are musts. I could also see Freeman Mcneil being on there. Favre shouldn't be on the list after only 7 games . . . Personally, I would put Kevin Mawae at the bottom of my list but I would understand why a lot of people wouldn't have him on there. Although, I would point out that he might be the best offensive lineman in Jet history. Still not a bad list, though.
How many playoff games did Chad win? What happened to Chad when Curtis Martin went away? Chad is about as overrated as the Iraqi military pre-desert strom. Bunch of homers....
Love your list this. I put Vinny on the list based on peak performance in 98, McNeal for carrying the team to the the AFC finals. 1 - Namath 2 - Toon 3 - Hill 4 - Philbin 5 - Klecko 6 - Mawae 7 - Sauer 8 - McNeal 9 - Vinny T 10-Maynard
While your top ten list is your opinion, I have to disagree with what you wrote for #10 Keyshawn Johnson. The one position the Jets have always had good to great players was wide receiver. You can go from Manyard, Sauer, Caster, Walker, Toon, Moore, Keyshawn, Chrebet, Coles, Moss, Cotchery and cover most if not all of the past 40+ years. Bobby 'Hands' Jones and Derrick Gaffney were OK too........ Here's my list: 1 Joe Namath (no comment neccesary) 2 Winston Hill (protected #1's blind side -all pro for about 10 years, SB team) 3 Joe Klecko (all pro for 3 different positions, No HOF is a bad joke) 4 Curtis Martin (One of the all-time great RBs future HOF) 5 Don Maynard (One of the all-time great WRs, HOF, SB team) 6 Emerson Boozer (best RB in Jets history outside of Martin, SB team) 7 Larry Gratham (best LB in Jets history, SB team) 8 Wesley Walker (explosive all-pro several times, did it with only one eye) 9 Mark Gastineau (greatest pash rusher in team history, stud numbers) 10 Joe Fields (one of the most underrated centers in NFL history, 14th round pick, several all-pro seasons)
how about some love for the 70's - 80's olineman like fields, rassmussen, and alexander. these lists are never consistent cause they are biased by age of the fan and team success IMO, longevity with the team, performance, and big game success are the best criteria. gotta get wes walker in there ahead of keyshawn, mcneil/martin is a close one - may need both in there, barkum for TE? can't argue with gastineau and klecko. funny how marvin jones and mo lewis are nowhere to be seen. both had the longevity, did play in a couple big games, and were very good at their positions when put in the right scheme to succeed. trouble is do you put them ahead of guys like buttle, mehl, and clifton. jil
