(in no particular order) Joe Namath Gerry Philbin Larry Grantham Winston Hill Al Toon Don Maynard George Sauer Joe Klecko Curtis Martin Marvin Powell
How anyone could have Curtis Martin outside the top 3 of their list is beyond me; let alone not even on it....
Joe Klecko Curtis Martin Wesley Walker Mark Gastinue Chris Ward Freeman McNeil Keshawn Johnson Kevin Mawae Al toon Lance Mehl no particular order and did not include the "old guys" I did not watch or route for.
I liked Freeman and Snell better based on their performances in the big games for the Jets. Put him on your list.
I'm Young so here are my top 10 that I've seen play: Not Ranked Curtis Martin - awesome and reliable. Mawae - umm Awesome and reliable. Pennington - No matter the issue with the arm and the injuries, he was behind center during a nice playoff stretch. He did have the trust and command of the offense and the team. He was a leader here. The last couple of years were tough, especially last year - which changed my mind about him - but he did do a lot. You can hate on Chad, or dislike him, but thank him for the good years, he was a big part of them. He is apart of the reason why you think the Jets should be in the playoffs every other year, he was the QB during he trend. I'd like this paragraph to not spark arguments, so read it and move on. Rhodes - dynamic playmaker with amazing athleticism. Coles - no one works harder. His toughness is genetic. Chrebet - the definition of heart in sports. Keyshawn - talented talented man. Gotta love that attitude haha. Mo Lewis - started the *dynasty* but he made offenses scared. Vilma - leader, reliable, a playmaker. Revis - I know, only two years, but you know what - he'll climb up on everyones lists at the end of his career.
Best players I have seen.. 1. Curtis Martin 2. Al Toon ( most talented player in Jets history unfortunately cut short by injuries) 3. Kevin Mawae 4. Joe Klecko 5. Keyshawn 6. Freeman McNeil 7. Mo Lewis 8. Wesley Walker 9. Aaron Glenn 10.Victor Green
this thread is not getting any better.... we have to break it down into decades, 60-70, 70-80, 80-90,90-00, 00-10. thats the only way to take out the age bias jil
no such player in Jets history There is a Shaun Ellis, though. It's a pet peeve of mine how many Jets fan still cannot spell the name of a guy who has been a regular starter for the team since 2000.
Exactly what I was thinking. Get Brett Favre out of this list. Any player who played a mere 1-2 years with the team doesn't belong on an all-time list especially ranked ahead of a players like McNeil, Walker, Toon and O'Brien. I agree that Wayne Chrebet is a sentimental favorite but c'mon how can you put him above Curtis Martin and the guys I mentioned above?
If you put Favre on there then Ronnie Lott has to be there as well. If we're going just by what they did as Jets neither belongs, at least not yet. I'd have to go: 1-Joe Namath 2-Don Maynard 3-Joe Klecko 4-Al Toon 5-Curtis Martin 6-Wesley Walker 7-Mark Gastineau 8-Marvin Powell 9-Kevin Mawae 10-Freeman McNeil I don't remember anyone before the mid 70s and only put Maynard there based on what I know without ever seeing him play, so my list doesn't include probably some 60s guys that should be there.
I'm only listing people I saw play so that leaves everybody but Namath and Hill from the Jets good 60's teams off. Maynard belongs but I didn't see him play so he's not on the list. I saw enough of Namath in the first couple of seasons I watched the Jets to know he was a great player on the downside of his career and I saw enough of Hill to know that he was a great player period. 1. Curtis Martin 2. Joe Namath 3. Winston Hill 4. Joe Klecko 4. Kevin Mawae 6. Aaron Glenn 7. Marvin Powell 8. Freeman Mcneil 9. Al Toon 10. Wayne Chrebet Anybody arguing against Chrebet has a point but nobody ever played for the Jets who had more heart than 80 and he racked up 580 catches and 379 first downs before he was done so he definitely makes my top 10 list.
It's all subjective, but if you put an all-time Jet team together I'm not sure if Chrebet makes the roster. You have Maynard, Toon, Walker and possibly Keyshawn ahead of him. That doesn't account for Sauer, whom I never saw play. But I agree about his heart, I have a white #80 I still wear to some of the games.
