I haven't been commenting in a while, but now that we are past the halfway point and I have had a chance to watch this team this year, I have a few comments: The Jets are a completely different team from last year and one of the least important reasons is the QB. Let's look at what has changed. The Jet defense is the most improved unit on the Jets. Three things stand out: 1. The Jets have one of the best run defenses in the NFL. That is a complete switch from the last couple of years when the Jets were one of if not the worst run defense in the NFL. 2. The Jets can rush the passer. The Jets have not had a pass rush since 2004 and have not a pass rush as good as this year's team in decades. 3. The Jets force turnovers. These three improvements make the Jets a completely different team. It means field position, time of possession, and defensive touchdowns . The past 3 years, the Jet defense could not get off the field. Teams would run the ball all day, have all day to throw, and the Jets would rarely get a turnover. This put tremendous pressure on the offense, which often had only 6-7 possessions a game, long fields to drive and few gimme opportunities for turnovers. As for the offense, the OL is vastly improved. The Jets have a running game for the first time since 2004. In addition, the QB has time to throw. This means that the Jets can control the ball and the clock. Lastly, the special teams have been exceptional (except for the New England and Oakland games). Again, this has given the Jets field position this year. As for the QB position, Favre has been underwhelming in my eyes. Except for the Arizona game, he has been ordinary. In fact, with the defense, running game, and return games excelling, in order to win games, all he has had to do is be a game manager. If you look at all 9 games this year, Favre has not really made a difference. In fact, he has come close to costing the Jets games this year with his turnovers. While the Jets as a team have impressed me, I am not impressed with Favre. The knock on Pennington was that he couldn't win the big game against good teams (although he has done that this year a few times). Let's see how Favre does with a very good team behind him and big games coming up on the road against the Pats and Titans. It's time for him to make a difference.
Great QB play comes in more forms than just making big throws, piling up yards and tossing TD passes. All good points though. Wins are easier when the defense is making plays and giving the offense a short field of play. Great win today.
Favre brought a new attitude to the team. True he hasnt put up amazing numbers but his presence alone I think was very uplifting. The same can be said for Faneca and Jenkins. Those two additions have been huge and it all starts in the trenches.
I've been a Jet fan since forever.. And always will be, That being said , Fk'n Farve, one and done was a save the management , ownership move. Piss poor thinking.. Then not taking him out at half time ??? Please give me a break. Have to admit the D is looking frek'n awesome, without them and special teams, we would be 3-6, not 6-3.. In my eyes the Giants are still the only NY team..
