Raiders K Sebastian Janikowski revealed that he injured his quadriceps on a 58-yard field goal attempt in Week 10. Like everyone else, Janikowski didn't think he'd be called in to kick because Oakland was trailing by 11 points with just 13 seconds left in the game. "There were no balls into the net so I couldn't get warmed up," Janikowski said. The weird move might have cost the Raiders their placekicker for the rest of the season. Source: Sacramento Bee
This begs to ask the question, "how the hell did we lose to this team?". I guess I can understand the logic of trying it and hoping for an onsides kick but still..this is the Raiders.
I don't see anything wrong w/kicking the FG there. You need a FG either way so take it and try for the onsides kick. Too bad he couldn't miss the one against us.
I tend to agree, but how does that align with the fact that he apparently wasn't even warming up for a potential FG? If the Raiders had been 10 yards further up the field a FG would have obviously been sensible, so why wasn't he getting ready for that? Either he or the special teams coach is an idiot for that.
