He did give up half a sack to Seymour, but all night long he was just awesome and really had an awesome push in the running game and did a good job in the passing game. Richard Seymour is one of the toughest guys to push and all night long D'brick did it. He has now become and ELITE LEFT TACKLE. Thoughts?
My thoughts are that you need to watch closer. Brick has gotten very, very good in pass protection, with only the occasional lapse- and that's really what he was drafted for, so I can't complain. But he rarely gets a good push in the running game. He's effective when allowed to get into space on outside running plays and screens, but he's still very weak at the point of the attack.... There's a reason why the majority of our runs of 5+ yards go to the right side...
Watch out the darksiders will attack! The fact of the matter is that you are absolutely correct. The guy is a stud and will be the best player in that draft.
There you go again. Attempting censorship of a true Jet fan who is expressing his joy at this great Jets victory and calling out darksiders who predicted gloom and are unhappy that the Jets have actually won since their uniformed opinions are now exposed for the whole world to see!!!!!!!!
As a pass protector: Yes. At least this year. A couple years strung together and he'll be in the elite class. D'Brick has been sick this year, and I heard nothing about Seymour after a while. Seymour is a big fucking dude though. The Jets need to draft one of those.
Wow I watch closely and I see something totally different. I guess I should take my green glasses off and look at a player so objectively that I cant say/see anything positive he does in the run game. So I guess I have to overlook all the times he mauled his man and opened pretty big holes along with Faneca.........Jesus fucking christ you fans are so full of shit. Yes he is an elite LT. LT's are paid to pass block.........look it up it is true.
I think people have been harsh to call him a bust... Look at someone like Robert Gallery... that's a bust. Fact is Brick has been solid since he came in and he's only getting better.
If we had drafted Cutler in that spot, and then McNeil and Mangold with our remaining picks that round, we wouldn't even have needed to trade for Favre, and our running game would be better as well. We'd also be set for the next decade, instead of for maybe another year at most after this. If you want to go with "best" picks, then you can't just be a homer. Either be happy with the pick, or admit when we could have done something better, but don't just bring it up and then get mad if you're wrong.
Not sure he is elite yet, but the guy is like 25....by the time he is 28, if he continues on this track, he will be among the top guys
No complaints from me tonight. Brickashaw played a very solid game. Maybe Faneca's toughness is rubbing off on him.
But we'd have gotten Cutler. That kinda balances it out imo. Also I thought McNeil did well last year, I was living in San Diego at the time so I watched almost all of their games, at least had them on if I was streaming a Jets game. I dunno how he's doing this year though. I guess it's Brick and a QB vs. Cutler and an LT. I personally think QB is much harder to find than LT, so I'd lean towards getting Cutler, plus I like his attitude, reminds me a bit of Namath, who I never actually got to see play live, but I've watched tapes and heard about him form others that were around when he was playing. Right now we got Favre, so it's moot. But this thread is supposed to be for the future too, so meh.
Yea...I don't even disagree with you...Cutler was my favorite prospect in that draft...by far really...that guy was everything and then some as a QB prospect...I'm more surprised to this day that so many doubted him. D'Brick was legitimately a top 5 pick in that draft, and that was a fucking loooooaded draft.
I still fail to see what makes Cutler so great. He's looked like an elite QB in one game this season, in which he lit up a horrendous defense. He's looked very good in two other games, both with horrendous defenses as well. Against quality defenses, he's been slightly above average. The reason I'd rather have the left tackle is because he makes the QB. Along with the rest of the offensive line, if you have a quality front five, you could throw almost anyone back there. I mean, look at the Patriots: I wouldn't cry over missing out on Matt Cassel, but when you're in a bang-up system with a Pro Bowl O-Line... welcome to 400 yards passing against a pretty good defense. The franchise LT IMO is the anchor to any championship run. Don't get me wrong-- the franchise QB is a great add-- but he's nothing without his O-Line. I disagree that it's necessarily so easy to find a franchise LT; he's usually gone within the first 5 picks, and any quality team is not selecting within the first 5 picks every year. I think Cutler's solid, sure... but great? I think he's yet to prove it by a longshot. Let me put it this way: IMHO, I think D'Brick has proved himself more of a "franchise LT" so far than Cutler has proved himself a "franchise QB." Either way, I for one won't ever regret that the Jets selected two 10-year starters in the '06 draft. Hindsight's 20/20.
I thought he looked good all night (9/10-pass; 6.5/10-run). 2 of the sacks seemed to come from the right side. Seymour did get a sack...not sure if that on Brick though. The only bad play that sticks out is when he couldn't seal the corner on TJ's off-tackle run, but like y'all said, he's our QB protector first and foremost, and he seems to be doing a great job.
