Bad part about that is there is no way Brett comes back if we win the SB. I couldnt see it any way, but hopefully im wrong.
We already got the 4th in the 2008 draft. If Vilma resigns we get either a 2nd or a 3rd, depending on Vilma's production. The Jets would have to return a 4th if that happens. It would probably be a 2nd. Vilma is having a good year. Problem is Vilma isn't signed yet, and last I heard they weren't even talking. In view of the fact that Vilma is having a good year he just might want to go to FA and see what his value is. If that happens all the Jets get is the 2008 4th
and either way I don't have a problem with. A high pick to trade around and position for that next David Harris pick or a 4th rounder which stays in that round and the Jets pick up another 2nd day gem. either is fine
I'd love for the Jets to get him back in FA. Lord knows we could be using him in pass coverage right about now.
I actually think there is a very good chance Favre comes back. If Favre finishes out the year, he will have 269 consecutive starts, that is 1 shy of the record for any position. Of course Favre isn't all about records, but the chance for him to become the football iron man as well as play for a good team at the same time, that will be hard for him to pass up.
Actually, the all time record for consecutive starts for any position will never be reached by Favre. The punter Jeff Feagles holds that record and its something like 330 games and counting. For players who actually are involved in contact on the field, the record is held by former Vikings DE great Jim Marshall, who started in all 282 regular season games of his career, plus 19 postseason games. If you count postseason, Favre is at 285 right now.
So be it, we would have finally won the Superbowl after 40 long years. Brett would go down in Jets lore as the man that reminded us what winning feels like. Hopefully someone steps up next year to fill the void. Would love to have him for another year or 2. He did say something along the lines of picking the place where he felt he and his family could enjoy the last 2-3 years of his career...
I think I speak for every other Jet fan here when I say that I really hope the Jets have to give the packers their first round pick for next year's draft.
He's definately worth a second if we get to the playoffs and if we make it to the Super Bowl, we're not going to be care much about our first round pick anyway. And plus, the draft compensation for Vilma is also going up...
Last year we were talking about the draft on Halloween. Enjoy this year's ride. We'll talk draft late Feb.
