hahahahaha... the 1st clip they show is Ahmad Carroll walking down the tunnel saying "There is a first time for everything" hahaha, Carroll the prophet.
A stat I didn't know: The Jets are the highest scoring 1st half team in the league with 17pts per 1st half. And then the common knowledge stat is that the Jets score 29 pts a game. So more than half come in the 1st Half.... Thats something to improve on, become a better 2nd half team.
I've chalked that up to us scoring first in most games. We often have a lead, sometimes significant, going into the half. The other team seems to make decent adjustments at the half and gain a bunch of yards on us when they have the ball to open the half. This past week we lost the opening toss, had the game opening 3andOut defensive stand, got the lead and got the ball to start the second half. I'm for letting the other team have the ball first from here on out. Take the wind and the ball to start the second half. I know, I know, its stupid but I think the Jets can hack it.
actually its brilliant. Why not have the defense make a statement right off the bat, then have the offense score on the opening drive like they always do. Then begin the 3rd Qtr with the ball, adding points to a quarter they normally get outscored in, thus making the chances of any comeback slimmer..... you are on to something.
You have to be supremely confident in your defense to use that tactic. The higher odds are to give the ball to your offense to score first. At least in part because it gives you a shot at more offensive possessions.
about the jets scoring on their opening drive, mangini says they work on that in practice by having a 'players make all the calls' highly competitive scrimmage immediately after streching.
