I dont quite agree with your apocalyptic outlook on losing three more games, i think at most we might lose one more in the regular season, but I do agree with what you said above. "It shows a lack of intestinal fortitude...." I have to agree with this. I understand the jets were 4-12 last year, but they ARE NOT THE SAME TEAM THIS YEAR. Our offseason rendered us an entirely different team. I just wish the jets would come out and dominate a little more. I wish they wouldnt come up flat for a game With that being said I did not lose hope with the Denver loss, in fact I think if we had to lose one of these games denver would be the best one to do so, and I also feel if we meet them again in the playoffs we will win. But I can absolutely understand the frustration with the performance last sunday. Like I said, I am no ultimate darksider pessimist, I believe this team has awesome potential, BUT, some of these jet fans posting are acting like weve won a few super bowls in the past 40 years and weve been a dominate franchise. I am 18 years old, I cant imagine what its like for guys who have been around for longer. Weve had seasons like this one before, and weve come up short, time and time again. If we went out there and wooped denver's ass on sunday I might say we have a way different team this year, but you must admit it was very typical of the new york jets to go out there at home against denver and lay an egg. With that being said, lets kick san fransisco's ass this sunday and run away with the rest of the schedule. (how un-jet like of me)
Oh god, please oh please stop. What does us crushing TEN @ their stadium say about this team? It's called a bad game. Every team is having quite a few of them this year aside from NYG and TEN. And we just beat TEN at their house! What does that game say about this team? At this point ONLY 5 teams have better records than us and only 2 of them are in the AFC. So at this point, I'd say that we are not in the best playoff position, but man we are still sitting pretty nice.
So, you're saying you would be embarrassed if someone other than Jet fans saw Jet fans upset about the Denver loss. Why would you care what they think, to the point of your personal embarrassment, and at that for the behavior of others? I cannot begin to fathom the thinking behind such a position.
it amazes me that ppl like this can even manage to get through in life. especially in a big city like New York. i imagine them crying in the fetal position in their lofts quite a bit.
Great post. That is why the super optimists here are too much so, even if the darksiders should lighten up a bit. It's the franchise history. Says it all.
it's a figure of speech genius. i'm not actually personally embarassed. but it is sad to see among fellow football fans.
At least you're not personally embarrassed, even if in your previous post you said you would be. Fellow Jet fans are upset about the loss. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Just a suggestion...
Its not just one loss. It is years of failure. The Jets have a just handful of "playoff wins" to hang our hats on the last 40 years. People have just been the done that with the Jets. It is easy to get down when all you know for the most part is down.
^^That seems to be the point that most of these people can't seem to understand. If this franchise had won one or two SBs over the last 40 years, or even BEEN to a couple, there would not be such blatant negativity. Now, after 40 years of heartbreak, only a SB victory will cure it. And the team I watched Sunday ain't winnin' no SB. So while some may clap their hands with glee over making the playoffs and getting bounced in the first round, it just doesn't do it for me. Sorry.
First of all, I agree with you that people really overreacted to the loss to Denver. In fact, I created a thread about it. (see "calm down") However, I did create the 'rhodes is overrated' post because I have thought it for a long time now. As I pointed out in my first post in that thread, I did not create the thread because of something I saw in the Denver game. I have thought Rhodes is overrated (on this messge board in particular) for a little over a year now. I am always one of the first people on this message board to call out the many pessimistic fans who make outlandish comments and claims after any bad play, quarter, or game. But the Rhodes thread is something that I had wanted to create for a while but didn't for fear of being ridiculed to no end. To my surprise, most people who posted actually agreed with what I had to say. I agree with you though, the mood on this board is absurdly fickle and it's one of the more annoying things about posting here in general.
A true statement. But I could never get into the "other teams suck so its ok if my team sucks too" mind set.
It's not just one loss. It's the recent pattern. NE - 400 yards passing TENN - 243 yards (Kerry Collins?) DEN - 357 Yeah, we won 2 of them but those numbers have to scare you as the end of the season approaches. With a pathetic pass defense even the worst teams in the league can beat you at any time. Notice that those numbers became much, much higher as soon as Manfuckhead added Law to the backfield.
5 Wins in a row is great but losing and losing the way we did is cause for the mood shift but there's 4 Games left and where 8-4 and still in 1st place in the AFC East. We control our own destiny.
I don't think that Law had everything to do with those lousy numbers, he hasn't been an asset and I really don't see much upside over Lowery. I'd rather let the kid take the penalties than watch the old guy get smoked every Sunday from here on out. Lousy choices as those may be, its the hand we've been dealt.
I grew up during the mid to late 90's and into the last 8 years so I've seen more success from this franchise in that time than usual for the Jets. I would imagine the "coming up short" oddities that have plagued this team in the playoffs and the crucial moments in the regular season have turned the heart of this fanbase into a nervous wreck anytime success comes around. So once adversity hits, the apocalyptic mentality consumes the minds of the fans once again. Its a contagious mindset. Fans must be strong and not get caught up in the hell storm after a loss. I personally cannot be that way, its no conducive to my lifestyle and I think that kind of mentality does not deserve to be rewarded with great success. Thats why I truly believe if the culture changes, the rewards will come.
im getting to a point where i dont think i can post on this message board anymore because the people are far to inconsistent and it can get so doom and gloom around here i dont know if i can take it anymore
