I do believe it'll come down to Miami in week 17

I just did the math... The Jets have to beat Miami in week 17 no matter what. If they lose, either they are out or the tiebreakers begin.

Head to head - Jets win they're in, Miami wins then it goes to....

Division Record - Jets beat Buffalo and Miami, they're in - lose to Miami and it goes to...

Common Games - Miami has to lose to SF and KC or else they win this stat if the Jets lose to Miami, but overall WL must be the same between MIA and NYJ. Then it goes to...

Conference Record - Both are 6-4, with both most likely being 7-4 going into week 17. So then who ever wins the last game of the season wins the Division.

It cannot go further than this due to the other conditions in the previous tiebreakers.... if I did the math correctly.

If not then it goes to....

Strength of Victory - I don't fucking know how to measure this right now, so if this is tied, then it goes to....

Strength of Schedule - Right now the NYJ are at .444 and MIA is at .452. Hope that the teams we played that MIA didn't during the year win and the teams they played that we didn't lose. The tougher schedule wins, like a BCS measure. If this is somehow tied too, ugh, then it goes to....

Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed - This is where it ends...The Jets are 1st in points scored for and 7th in points allowed. That's a 4 ranking (1+7)/(2). The Fins are 11th in points scored and 12th in points allowed for a ranking of 11.5........ JETS ARE DIVISION CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jets just need to win out, bottom line. The darksider in me sees it coming down to that last game with Miami and Pennington throwing a goddamn 40 yd strike to Fasano. IDK... we need to win, and win now, no exeptions.

I don't even want to think about this. This is the sort of game that is made for sporting theatre, Chad back in the house with his new team after we kicked him to the sidewalk. Oh man, Karma...........

What are the three-way tie scenarios? In other words, if N.E. lose any one of their three games does that allow the Jets to qualify regardless of their result in Seattle if they win the two division games?

In other words, if the Jets, Dolphins and Raiders win this week are we in a scenario where the Seattle result means absolutely nothing, no matter what?

I'd have to check your tie-braker scenarios with Baltimore and Indy, but I wouldn't say absolutely nothing. Beating the Bills and Seahawks and losing to Miami might still get you a WC if either Baltimore or Indy tank 3 in a row. If either one lose 2/3 and you win 2/3 you're both at 10-6 and again I'm not sure who'd win the tiebraker.

it'll come down to overall WL if thats the case. Seattle is important because of the common games tiebeaker. The Fins need to lose to the 49ers and Chiefs for that tiebreaker to even out. The Jets need to beat Buffalo and Seattle. But if that happens then the Jets clinch I do believe. I just realized that. if the Fins lose the next two and the Jets win the next two, then it wont matter what happens in week 17. so that tiebreaker becomes moot. The Jets need to win out.

NE is pretty much out of it because of the common games and conference record. I didn't do that math though.

We would have a chance at the 6 spot. Indy has the 5 seed locked in.

Baltimore needs to lose to PIT and JAX. And then the tiebreaker would move to common games.... and I think they'd win that.

For the Jets in division or nothing. If they win the division and lose the WC Game 41-3. I'm a happy man.

And to get ahead of myself.... Denver goes 1-2 in this strech because they play Carolina this week. The Jets win out, they get back the 3 seed. But I'd rather play Indy than Baltimore.

You have obviously been a Jet fan for a while. Those of us that have been probably have been thinking of that after the first game. Could you imagine what a long summer it would be. If it were to hjappen like that , Favre would retire soon after. Then we wouild be stuck with Qb problem again. By the time the Qb thing gets straightened out , offensive line and defensive line gets old so they have to be replaced. So the qb finally gets straightened out and now we need a new line . So the new line needs time to gel and the new Qb gets creamed so we are forced to use 2nd and 3rd stringers nanana naana na a yada yada yada. Such is the life of a jet fan

don't forget that switching back to the 4-3 might happen with new coaches.

You'd be a happy man if we won the division and then got embarrassed in the first round? I would hate that.

I would take a bet that this is going to happen. God I hope not, but these are the Jets and until they prove that they have moved passed the SOJ nothing will surprise me. This includes a final game loss to Penny in his old house against the team who put him out with the garbage.

Both teams control their own destiny. If we win, we're in. Same for you guys. Difference is the Jets can afford to lose one if they beat Miami week 17, providing the Patriots lose one too.

I like NDMick, but this thread was not needed to be made. If the Jets can't beat the 6-7 Bills, 2-11 Seahawks, and 8-5 Warm weather Dolphins at home in the ice cold, after losing to Denver and San Francisco, they don't belong in the playoffs. Bottom line.

It may even be quite likely that Chad sees it this way himself, but the reality is he was overpaid here, had every opportunity to show he was the man, had a few playoff berths he could have made far more of, and shat the bed last year so bad the Jets brought in a so so Clemens to replace him. He then was given another opportunity to win the position outright in camp and again was so so. The Jets owed him absolutely nothing at that point, and instead left it open to him to go to another team on his terms.

I completely disagree with any notion he was treated unfairly. Just the opposite.

    To expand on this:

Jets and Raiders win in week 15 (let's say Miami win too)

    Jets 9-5, Dolphins 9-5, Pats 8-6

Jets lose and Miami & NE win in week 16

    Jets 9-6, Dolphins 10-5, Pats 9-6

Jets win and NE win in week 17

    Jets 10-6, Dolphins 10-6, Pats 10-6

Jets win tie breaker due to 3-1 record in head to head games (Pats 2-2, Dolphins 1-3)

So basically, if the Pats lose this week and we win against Buffalo then the Seattle game is irrelevant to our chances of winning the division - Miami will be a win-and-in, lose-and-go-home game regardless of what happens in week 16.

Even if Miami lose this week or next, they'd still eliminate us by winning in Week 17. So Seattle could be of no value.

Of course it will come down to Miami. It's almost as if the people creating the schedules knew this ahead of time. This game has the makings of 2002 Jets vs Packers week 17.

I was at that game, and will be at this Miami game. No way I'm missing an event like this.

10-6 division winners do not impress me. Hopefully one of the teams can win out and be atleast 11-5. And yeah, winning the division in 2002 was great, but 9-7 is not impressive.

Good work the tiebreaker rules were always a little confusing to me but now I understand them pretty good. I think that if any of these teams are going to falter, it'll be the ravens. Their O has been going crazy for a while now, and with a rookie QB and average WR and RB they are bound to stumble soon.
