http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/2008/12/11/2008-12-11_inside_jets_new_world.html SMITH SITTING: WR Brad Smith has a concussion, Mangini confirmed, and probably won't play Sunday. He missed practice for the second straight day. Speedster David Clowney could be active for the first time in his place. ... QB J.P. Losman will make his second straight start for the Bills. Trent Edwards (groin) sat out another practice. ... S Eric Smith, out six games from multiple concussions, is expected to return for the Jets. He could play in the third-down package.
For the sake of all that is good and holy, send Clowney on one fly pattern after another and tell Favre to throw it as far as he can. We need to hit some deep passes in order to open up the short passing game.
Clowney has more speed than any WR on our roster by far. Please try to go to him Favre, please. i just want to see what he can do against NFL 1st stringers
I would edit this a little. Send Clowney on a on fly pattern after another and tell Favre to take what the defense gives him. If the safeties are helping cover the fly pattern, pick them apart short all day long like TEN/NE. If they decide to cheat up to stop the short ball and leave Clowney 1v1, then let if fly.
I hope The Jets let Favre throw one deep to Clowney he will make the defensive backs look like clowns.
Other than Clowneys injury whats been stopping ManginiCLOWN from getting this guy on the field. I hope he lights up Buffalo on Sunday the NYJETS need a SPARK!!!!
actually you do just throw deep for the sake of throwing deep. it opens up the field whether you hit it or not. if you NEVER throw deep there will never be anyone even thinking about it. and there are many good things that can happen on a deep ball. its not always about making the 40 yard play its the play later in the game that you get 10 on because the safety remembers hey this guy may go deep let me get my full drop.
I Agree! If you throw the ball on the deep routes (esp w/Favre) and the WR just gets that Saftey or CB to turn their back to the play- 4 things can happen: 1 is BAD, INT, 2 are GOOD, either an INC or PI [witness Hester last night], and 1 is OUTSTANDING, long gainer and the lasting memory in the db's mind that he was burned!. But the OLINE needs to stop the up the middle late rush that has been stuffing Favre's delivery all year long.
If the Buffalo CS payed any attention to the respect you give a guy that has not even caught a regular season pass yet. They will have him double covered all game. I understand everyone wants to see what he can do, but how is everyone going to feel if he ends up with 7 balls thrown his way with 3 drops a fumble and a stat line of 2 catches for 22 yards. I hope to god I amn wrong but do you think our CS has the nuggets to throw deep to a guy that hasn't faced a first rate D yet? I see him as a decoy @ best.
