I've said it a few times today, but I'm tired of fans attacking those of us who are critical of the Jets. Some of the posts by the so called Darksiders can be a bit obnoxious, I admit. However, their main point is legitimate. The Jets offense is inconsistent and their defense has been terrible the last 3 weeks. You watch the Ravens/Steelers game and you see two teams with nasty defenses. How are we going to beat them if our offense is inconsistent and our defense is getting lit up? This is why Jets fans are worried and speaking out right now. We got the win, that's great, but our weaknesses were exposed again. A good team, like the kind we'll run into during the playoffs, will kill us if we play like we did today. Like I said, I'm happy for the win, but I was looking for a complete effort that would have made me confident of our chances in the playoffs. We have not seen one for 3 weeks. There is still some time left to turn it around (look at the Giants last year), but we will be an easy out in the playoffs if we sneak in with the way our team is playing right now. By the way, the 'darksiders' weren't making critical posts after the Titans game. Do you know why? Because at the time, the Jets looked like a very good football team. I was quiet, because I thought so too. We who are critical of the Jets do not lack common sense, and we want the best for the Jets. Some of you need to get off your high horses and just deal with the criticism you'll see on this board. We certainly deserve it. Remember, the Bills hadn't scored a touchdown in 3 games, and we gave up 27 points to them. This is not a championship defense. So in summary, let the people who are critical be critical, and lets all hope the Jets put it together or they might end up missing the playoffs entirely.
Yeah, exactly. I mean there is a small-subset of the "Darksiders" who are gonna be irrationally pessimistic and critical no matter what the situation is, but most of them are critical because there are so many reasons to be critical. It's not just that we looked bad today, it's that we've looked bad for three weeks in a row. We can't stop the pass, and now it looks like we can't stop off-tackle runs (Jenkins is either gassed or hurt as well).
How about realising that we have no right to win anything and to appreciate the wins we do get? How about realising there are better teams out there than the Jets and we probably won't win the superbowl? I think the anger comes from people wanting the Jets to do well, which is understandable, but let's just enjoy what we get?
I understand your viewpoint and I respect it. But its just not for me. I'd rather just get up on Sunday, count down the minutes for the game. Jump around the room like a madman high fiving all my buddies when that fumble and return happened. Then take a couple victory "shots" and look forward to next week. Not eveyr team makes the playoff or evne plays meaningful games in December. I'd rather enjoy every second of this ride and not always look at the negative. Yes, we had to hope for Dick Jauron and Losman to f up. But at the same time there were some positives out of the game and we WON. I know if I saw the game why a lot of Jets fans saw the games, I wouldn't watch, I'd be miserable and depressed. Sure I'll be depressed as hell if this season ends without a Super Bowl but until that point, I'm not going to be sad after a WIN.
I never said I was sad. I'm happy we still have a season here. But I don't have any enthusiasm about our future prospects based on the way we've played the last 3 weeks. Seems like people are trying to bring back that disgraceful 'Shrek' gimmick of 2001, winning ugly, yeah! That took us far. We need to play crisper football. Lets raise our expectations.
There are people on this site who have argued that Revis and Harris were bad picks last year. Those are the darksiders. The other people are just irrationally pissed off or happy depending on the weekly result.
Exactly. Even a doddering old man like Leon Hess got the message when 60K people start chanting, "Joe Must Go!" all game. How did I survive those years? Walton, Coslet, Carroll, and Richie K. Simply putrid.
I think the point is, NO team is perfect machine every week, executing in all phases to perfection. There are always going to be disappointments somewhere in a game if you look hard enough. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging these. But obsessing over them, and nothing but them, when it's pretty guaranteed there will be something every week is ... tiresome. IMO that is what a "darksider" is, someone who can never get past the "why can't it be better" in every thing they say.
Sometimes it's a little ridiculous, but so are the people who sarcastically go "the sky is falling! the sky is falling!" as a way to mock those who have some serious concerns.
I don't do that, I don't think, and you're not one I think of as a "darksider." I think more of guys like the one in my sig, who literally did not come here to post at all the two weeks after the Patriots and Tennessee wins (seriously). Some people seem like they literally can't think of anything to say if they can't be negative. For what it's worth, I actually agree with almost everything you wrote in the OP. We are probably still long odds to go all the way even if we do win out & get in the playoffs. I've felt that all year, the only time I got even a little bit confident we had a good shot was the week after the Titans beat down. If anything I'm the most pessimistic I've been all year -- my "forumula for success" this year (which I posted int he preseason) was taht the Jets would struggle early as they struggled to fit the new pieces together, then finish strong as it all clicked. It's looking less and less likely that latter part's gonna happen to any sufficient degree. But I guess I just don't see the point of dwelling on it so much, there is still more positive than negative IMO. I mean, my wife isn't a "perfect 10" either, but IMO she's a damn fine cut or two above most of the women I have ever known, and I'm gonna enjoy that, not sink into anangst that she's not somehow even better in some way. It's not a complete fluke that the Jets are 9-5, I'm saying.
And I think enough people acknowledge the bad for the bad to be known enough to say that there is a good.
I did post after the wins simply to state that the team had finally produced up to the potential of their payroll and the expectations that were set by the offseason. When the players play and the coaches coach the way their supposed to, I don't feel the need talk about it. That's what supposed to happen. However, when the team fails to produce, then there's something to talk about. When they make stupid mistakes, then I get angry and feel the need to express my opinions.... in the hopes that somehow, the mistakes will be corrected if someone points them out. See, I really do want them to win. I just don't think they have the right coach.
