wait i thought if NE and balt both lose then the jets are an auto in the playoffs(if we beat seattle first)? because jets would be 10-6 getting the wildcard while miami wins division if the jets lose to miami?
The problem with this scenario is, even if both teams kneeled on every play: 1. Our defense still couldn't stop them. 2. Favre might still find a way to throw an int. 3. This would be the first time Mangini actually made halftime adjustments and we'd screw it all up.
We want Baltimore to win out, NE to win out, Miami to win this week and the Jets to win this week. We want Miami and NY JETS for all the marbles win you're in NE and the loser goes home.
Haven't we all learned those very important words from a former coach? Something about slippery chickens and winning games and such...
ok then forget about a tie being set up in advance. just think how funny it would be if they atually DID play to a tie and that kept ne out of the playoffs!!!!
yeah, that was pretty good. I'd actually take the deal, but Miami wouldn't. I want a home playoff game and Miami would be the easiest opponent.
I don't understand how this eliminates a game in the playoff chase. The Jets or Dolphins or Pats, whoever wins the division, will have to play in the Wild-Card round no matter what. The byes have been taken by Pitt and TEnn.
Now this "pact" is NEVER going to happen, but of course it would be in Miami's best interest. You're logic is that the Fins wouldn't want to have to play in the Meadowlands. Well guess what, they would either have to play in the meadowlands in week 17 or in the wildcard. The difference is if they win in the meadowlands in week 17 they have to play a wild card game (yes its at home, but they still have to play). Then they would be playing the divisional game away. If we set up a "tie" and then have the showdown in the meadowlands and they win, they are in the second round just the same but with only having to beat the Jets @ the meadowlands. Not taking the deal forces them to beat the Jets @ the meadowlands and then beat someone @ home to make the 2nd round.
I do see your point. They have to win at the Meadowlands either way, basically, so why not skip a week? The idea is that they won't have to play to win Week 17, so theoretically that's eliminating a game, although that's stretching it. If the teams were to play to a tie, they could take a bye in Week 17 sort of, by not playing to win. Obviously this is all hypothetical speaking in terms of an alternate universe, because this would never happen.
Now that's a well thought out thing you just did. Here's my answer. HELL NO! I WANT TO BEAT THOSE DOLPHINS AND PUT CHAD INTO THE GROUND!
I don't know what's worse. This stupid thread or the fact that so many people responded to it. Ooops! Add me to the list... hmy:
