Gallery was the second pick in the 2004 draft.
What has his impact been with the Raiders?
Is D'Brickashaw considered to be as much of a beast as Gallery was considered to be in the 2004 draft?

THATS MY POINT. Robert Gallery was touted as a "cant miss" and although he has played out of position, because he was not productieve at LT, he has been a major dispnt. I understand that no 2 players are the same, but D'Brick has some big time work ahead of him. If anybody thinks he can come in and start from day one and be more effectiev than Adrian Jones they are way off. He will strugel with his run blocking and get bull rushed alot. He will be able to handel the speed rushers with ease, but will need 2-5 years before he fully reaches his potential. I am not interested in waiting that long for him to develope, are you?

    Hell No
That is why at the 4 pick I would like to get some returns on my money this year. Not when he is available for Free Agency.

Dont get me wrong, he will be a great talent, but we will have to wait and invest in him. I am not willing to do that. If the front office is willing to let AJ play for a year or 2 and let Ferg back him up, that would be the only argument, but i n our situation we need an instant starter and I for one do not think he is ready to step in full time because of the weaknesses I pointed out.

I Want super mario, this way their will be no pressure for him to start off the bat and they could put him is situational spots and play to his strengths until he gets adjusted to the pro game.

So because Robert Gallery hasn't lived up to his potential, we shouldn't pick a LT at #4. What about Orlando Pace? What about Walter Jones? What about Jonathon Ogden?

Go look at the top 5 picks for every position in the last 5 years and I garauntee you find busts on players who were "playmakers" just as much, if not more than left tackles.

We need to fix the O-line first and foremost or these "playmakers" everyone wants won't be able to make any plays.

What about them? Ferguson isn't on their level.

Gallery was a better prospect coming out. He still can be an elite LT. So far he has been the RT because the Raiders already had a solid left side, and because Gallery had the ability to play either side, they wanted to ease him into the league by putting him on the side that many consider to be the easier side to play. This year he will be the starting LT, and there is no reason to expect he won't be great.

Read what I said, I said no 2 players are the same. But if you look at D'Brick you will see he is weak in areas that take time to overcome. Walter, Ogdon, Pace are all over 320 and can run block with the best of them. I have BIG concerns with D'Bricks Run Blocking in the NFL and his being able to handel the bull rush. Yes he does have quick feet and long arms, he will be able to handel speed rushers and pick up the outside blitz. He is not compleate at this stage in his career, just like most of the other picks. HE WILL BE VERY VERY GOOD, he will not make an instant impact though. By saying we need to fix the o-line, yeah no shit, but he is not the savior you supporters think he will be, at least not for a few years

My point was that we shouldn't discount picking the best tackle in the draft because Gallery hasn't lit it up. I used those guys as examples of LT as early picks that worked out just fine.

Yeah, what were they like in the 1st year of there careers? Jones took a while, Ogden was a 6'6 330 when he came out of UCLA and Pace was 6'5 325 when he came out. They had the NFL bodys to start and Ferg does not at this point....again he will be awsome, just not for 2 years...make a point with your posts please

Holy Smokes! D'Brick is the best option. If he falls to 4, he's the highest rated player still on the board, and he fills a need for us as well. It's not a sexy pick, by any stretch of the imagination, but I'll take it nonetheless.

    Once again,
My point was that we shouldn't discount picking the best tackle in the draft because Gallery hasn't lit it up.

I understand what you're saying but I don't think that means we shouldn't take him. A lot of draft picks are going to take some time to really make an impact.

How do you suggest we address the O-line issues?

I agree, he is the highest rate player if he falls to us. But what does he fix this year? We will basically have the same player we have in AJ, same body type, same "quick feet" same "long arms"? I would rather pick McNeil at #29 or #35 and start AJ..which is what the jets will do. In the long run D'Brick will probably be better than AJ, but not today or next year. So Bang for Buck...we trade down or pick Williams...or we wait another 2-3 years till Ferg Matures...Im cool with that Idea but I think we wast the pick for 2 Years and people around this board will be questioning the pick on this very board next off season:buffaloblows:

No one is saying D'Brickashaw won't be very good.
I think everyone here agrees on this, but considering what is available, there are at least 4-5 round OT for the first round alone, let alone that 1st day.
Given that they do take time to develop, how much are you willing to commit?
Remember when Parcells was here, and we had an opportunity to draft Orlando Pace.
Bill wanted Pace badly, but not at the cost it would take to sign an OT when there are skilled positions that could be addressed. I think we had a pretty good line, and I can't remember one drafted in the first round.
    I could be wrong.
Our line got old and players who were drafted in later rounds were taken by other teams during Free Agency

Jones, Ogden, or Pace had flaws in their game coming out of college as well. NONE were complete players, they are better now, but not coming out.

There have been 7 OL drafted in the top four the past 11 years (there is a thread on this somewhere). Gallery and Williams are too early to tell. Boselli is above average. Ogden and Pace are elite. Leonard (sp?) is the only real bust. (I am missing one). Those are pretty good odds of getting a good/above average player.

Brick will be an immediate improvement over Jones. What did Jones do last year to show he can be a franchise LT and responsible for the safety of the QB? I make it a point to watch the lines, and not once did I say "Wow, that Jones kid has potential and is the answer at LT." Was it when Vinny or Bollinger was running for their lives. Jones is another Bradway project, and there are too many damn projects in this O-Line depth. Jones, Katnick, Missant, Morley, Snell...we need some solid players and not patchwork answers. The only OL Bradway project to work out in 5 years is Moore. Those are some crappy odds there.

No scouting report I have read says Brick is bad at run blocking. They say he is a better pass blocker than run blocker. I have watched Brick during games, and he just needs to add some bulk and work on his run technique. Which can be taught in the NFL, and for a guy as talented as him, I have n odoubt he will improve.

As for this immediate impact garbage. That is what the past 5 years have been, sign a player to fill a hole, never looking ahead long term. So there is an opportunity to have a potential pro-bowler to fill the most important position on the Oline and people are complaining it might take a few years? So what you want to just keep signing old vets off the street or drafting 5th round projects? Want to go through another 5 QBs? It is time to start thinking long term here. Have we learned nothing from the psat 5 years?

By the way the same can be done for every position. I can find some QB busts, DE busts, LB busts...To single out LT because you want the Jets to draft your favorite is a little one-sided. There is no garuantee that Williams, Hawk, Leinart, Davis, Young, or even Bush will work out. They might take years to develop too, or may never. It is all a crapshoot.

Yes, but what gaurantee do you have that Williams will have an immediate impact? Just because he has hype does not mean he won't bust or will not need work in the NFL. Williams has not played one down in the NFL, there is no telling what he will be. He might blow next year and need a year to develop. There is NO gaurantee with ANY draft pick no matter what people might think.

When you are talking about rebuilding you are talking long term answers, this "he won't be good for a year" is not logical. If Brick turns out to be elite, you will have a franchise LT for 10-12 years. You don't think that is bang for your buck?

Jones has been in the league 2 years, and started last year. He is average AT BEST. Brick will be better than Jones this year, IMO at least. Beyond body type, he is a far better natural athlete than Jones, and he is a natural pass rusher.

No one knows what the FO are going to do.

Where technique is concerned Defensive players have an edge....They learn the game but in the meantime, their atheleticism keeps them in the game....
As someone said earlier, Ellis had 8 sacks his rookie year. Abraham would have had more if not for the abdominal injury. That is an immediate return...
I have no problem with D'Brickashaw, but is he the best player at the 4 pick?

what I will not like to see is that we draft D'Brick and he does nothing for us this season, then next season he plays better perhaps decent, then the other season he just plays like a superstar and then after it is over he finishes leaving the team for a bunch of money and then we have to draft another Offensive line prospect. I think it will take time to develop him into a star type of player if he doesn't become a bust.

what, you think were gonna win it all this year? Were gonna rally around a human punching bag in Ramsey and a still recovering Pennington while running the ball with a broken down HOF RB. This is rebuilding mode. I'd be ecstatic if D'Brick is an elite tackle by year 3. Didnt know many Elite tackles dominated from day one. Didnt know many rookies dominated from day one.
