Now that the Colts are out of the playoffs. Jim Caldwell is replacing Dungy, at some point. per Mike Francesa on the NFL Now. This would satisfy the Rooney Rule, if nothing else.
there have been rumors, but none of them are actually going to be interviewed, as far as I know. Francesa said definitively that Meeks will be interviewed.
Talk about something so well intentioned having such a negative effect on the desired result. Should have thought this one thru a bit more.
Sick to death of this Rooney rule...especially now that there have been more minority hires than in years past. I think it's a gross aberration that the 49ers didn't have to interview a non-minority candidate before handing Singletary the (semi) permanent reins.
What's unfortunate about the Rooney rule is that it hurts the credibility of those who it's supposed to help. If there were no preferential interviewing/hiring practices, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
I don't agree with that at all. It opens doors to a lot of minority canidates, to think about the canidates as qualified to be a head coach. Eventually, those doors turn into the canidates actually getting hired.
For that to be true, you'll have to go by the assumption that all NFL owners are racists and don't want to interview black candidates.
They should have a Riggins Rule that they have to have at least one white running back at every training camp.
TANNY: so ron, I'm pretty sure you know why you're here right? MEEKS : umm yes sir. I am here to be the next coach of the NY Jets, holy makalendy TANNY: Ron, you're here because of the Rooney rule MEEKS: holy makalendy TANNY: Can you leave my office now? MEEKS: holy makalendy
This is a sensitive subject but I think if you've had a black HC within say the last 10 years, you should be exempt. This way, if a club like the Jets bring in a black candidate, people don't think Rooney rule right away.
bahahahahaa!! if Meeks was hired..i can see his weekly post game news conferences consisting of a good dose of "holy makelandy!"
