What does it matter? FA hasn't started. The combine hasn't occurred. The draft is months and months away. Who really cares? It's nothing to worry about until after the superbowl and by Favre's own statements that is when he will announce a decision.
It matters because inquiring minds like semperfigreen want to know! semperfigreen can't imagine why a person needs more than a day to decide to call it quits on their career. semperfigreen can't imagine why a person who notoriously already retired once before he was really ready might want to be more careful this time. semperfigreen can't imagine why a QB who was hurt (and his play was impacted by that injury) might want to see how it feels after a few weeks of, you know, not getting piledriven into the ground every Sunday. semperfigreen can't imagine why things as mundane and irrelevant as who your head coach, offensive coordinator, and QB coach will be would have any bearing on his decision. semperfigreen can't imagine why Favre isn't just doing what Tannenbaum aksed him to do, to explicitly not give him an answer right now & not to come back with it for at least a month. semperfigreen can't imagine why a player might need a little time to clear his head and emotions after such a pitiful finish to the year, and after some critical comments by a couple other players have poisoned the atmosphere a little. Favre should not care about the factors that any other rational human being would want to factor in if they were in Favre's shoes. Favre should only care that semperfigreen needs to know, and know right now, so he can ... do whatever it is that not knowing is holding semperfigreen up on
It does matter. Do you really think everyone in the Jets organization is just sitting on their collective asses until the beginning of free agency? Any team worth its salt has already begun the scouting and evaluation process of potential draftees and free agents. Knowing Burt's decision would most certainly help weigh the pros and cons with respect to the offseason strategy. I would think this goes double for a team with a new head coach.
The Jets need to proceed as if Favre is not coming back. If he comes back at the last minute again he'll have to compete with young guys who have been training all off-season. We're not Green Bay, we don't owe him anything. The reason he shit the bed this year is he came back in August and didn't train all off-season, then wore down at the end. We need our QB to be a guy who has prepared himself for the season, whether that's Favre or someone else.
Right, so 4 weeks would be Sunday, February 8, 2009. At this point Favre is just following the bosses orders.
I think they didn't have a coach until late last night and since his opinion probably matters most I don't think anything up until now matterd at all except to people posting on this site. Of course they are planning for any outcome but they would be doing that if if they had a decision now.
I agree with you almost 100%, though that may surprise you. And I think Brett knows this, better than you or I, and if he is holding out any chance of coming back it's because he needs to be really sure he is up to that kind of commitment. But you should realize that there are a lot of people here who don't agree with us. To them, the problem is not that he came in late, did not prep enough, was not prepared for the rigors of a full season, all that, the problem is that he is old, he is washed up. Period. Somewhere between that Sunday of week 12, after the Titans win, to the Sunday of week 13, Brett Favre aged massively, just like a vampire with a stake put through his heart, his arm died and shriveled away, after a full 2007 and middle part of 2008 playing well. According to them. The idea that the Jets cannot & are not making contingency plans becasue they don't know what Favre is gonna do is ridiculous. This is not pee wee football, this is a multi-billion dollar company with a lot of priority on FO performance. NFL teams are making contingency plans, evaluating backup options, all the time, not just the Jets, not just with Favre.
The Jets need to cut Favre and be done with it. Who gives a damn where he signs, if he signs. He's washed up.
I'm with you here. In Favre's defense, we just found out for sure who the coach will be and we still don't know who the OC will be, maybe the same, so he has to be able to factor that into his decision. Like you said, if he were truly washed up he wouldn't have looked as good as he did the first 12 weeks of the season. As a guy who is turning 42 myself, I know you can't play ball with young guys unless you prepare more than they do, not less. Favre managed to get away with it for 3/4 of a season but that isn't good enough. There is time, whatever he does, but we need to organize the coaching staff and move forward, Favre or no Favre.
I just realized you are from the elementary school near shitsburgh. From 8th of Jan, till the end of this wk...or even the next wk, does not equal a month... Why do people have to bitch and whine for no damn reason? He was given a month and its only been 12 days. Get a life!!!
I don't think Favre will be a Jet next year, but I do think he'll play. He's not worth the $13mil he's due next season, but he will refuse to take a pay cut thus forcing his release.
LMAO, Thankfully the arm chair fans don't always get their say: I am sure there were a lot of Arizona fans saying the same things about Warner last year at the age of 37, now look at that team !!!!
I agree with your Logic! As much as he sucked down the stretch, i would give him 1 more year - especially if Schott Jr. is staying around.
He said he would not let it drag out like last year & he also said he would give us a answer by the end of February
if you can't blame INT's on anyone but the QB then the QB should get all the credit for TD passes... no credit to the receiver, O-line, coaches, bad defense, or anything. great logic buddy.
retiring before the super bowl or right after the super bowl is wrong...just like when a-rod said he would hit free agent market right after the world series and stole the media
Oh a Brett Favre thread..........Cool, I thought from the title this was going to be another "My GF didn't have her period" thread.....
