Dolphins sold to New York billionaire
    By Steven Wine
    The Associated Press

MIAMI ? New York real estate billionaire Stephen Ross has become majority owner of the Miami Dolphins, with Wayne Huizenga retaining a 5 percent interest.

The two businessmen reached an agreement today to complete a deal forged last February. At that time Ross bought 50 percent of the franchise, Dolphin Stadium and surrounding land from Huizenga for $550 million, with an agreement that Ross would later become managing general partner.

A year ago, Huizenga said it was time for another person to take control of the franchise. At the time, the Dolphins were coming off a 1-15 season. Under the new Bill Parcells regime, they improved to 11-6 this season and made the playoffs for the first time since 2001.

Parcells would then have 30 days to leave without sacrificing the money due him in the final three years of his contract.

I wonder if he got his federal bailout before buying an NFL team.

Ross also made an unsuccessful bid for the New York Jets in 1999.

You mean if he leaves within 30 days, he gets paid for the last 3 years of the contract and he can take a new job. If so, that's a pretty good deal.

Exactly right. However, most of those contracts are written in such a way that the money he gets is reduced by what he might get in a new job.

Why would Bill leave next year for 1/3 of the money that he can have now?

He doesn't have an out next year. It's now or never. Unless he retires (again).

If I'm Parcells I'm leaving, collecting my money and giving the new guy a chance to buy me back.

Here's what BP had to say today,

Take it for what it's worth, but there really is no need to leave the Dolphins. The weather is great, the Dolphins have a great history, there's no luxury tax, you can play Golf nearly 365 days a year, Bill is surrounded by a staff that he put together and won't be able to take wiuth him if he leaves right now. It just makes no sense to leave, none.

BP has never, ever said one thing and done another. Never, ever.

Yep, if I were you I would take that to the bank. Better yet, go to Vegas and put down some money down on his comments. Surely you must've missed the 60 minutes when he emphatically said that he was done coaching forever and that if he were to coach it would only be with the Jets. Great coach, but horrible in the area of "man of his word" category...

Umm, I think you're a bit confused about the QB position. Miami did just fine with Chad, regardless how much you dislike or disrepect the guy. Also name the last time BP singed on with a team and the very next season left town for another team....good luck.

How about the last time BP retired, then unretired leading his team to a SB trophy?
