Feely is the way to go.
He is a great clutch vet.
If i was the jets, I wouldn't bother with Nugent.

Nugent might end up in Miami with Chad and Coles.

You don't trade up for edge players. Especially when you are not so strong up the middle and the Jets had issues at DT (moving from a 3-4 to a 4-3), ILB (Lewis and Jones both aging) and at S, on the offensive side they had a 36 year old QB and a guy they weren't happy with as his replacement at that point and they had two guards who werei n the process of moving on and they had a 28 year old running back with a few good seasons left (maybe).

Santana Moss was a mistake to take and a bigger mistake to trade up for.

Right. And I have no problem chastising that trade. No problem bashing him for taking Bryan Thomas.

My point is, maybe Tannenbaum fucked up here and there (most GMs do, even the Pats whiffed on Chad Jackson), but for the most part he's done a solid job here, especially with the cap. Every year we think we're gonna be in cap trouble; lo and behold, we're about 24mill under right now.

Good god is this completely wrong.

Feeley was released by the new Phins front office for beeking off in the press.

He was passed over because many teams do not want out-spoken kickers.

Please take your misinformation somewhere else.

agree if we're gonna be a defense first team, then a real punter is important, field position is the game

The reason Nugent is gone is not really because of Feely's kicking which was more than adequate, but because Feely is an athlete who happens to be a kicker. The guy gets downfield and makes tackles on special teams.

You think Westhoff didn't appreciate having him there to make a tackle?

    So long Nuge.

No team in their right mind chooses a kicker for his tackling ability.

I'm more than happy with Feely. As most have said, once he settled in, he was pretty good and we didn't cringe everytime he went to kick.

The 55 yarder@ Oakland and the GW against New England stick in my mind...Guy has guts.

And now all the main players from that disastrous trade are gone. Jolley, Miller and Nugent are all history with this organization. Nice job Boobway.

Not that I care about losing this kid though. Never once did he inspire the confidence that a second round pick in the draft should. My favorite memory of him was his first game ever when he came out against the Chiefs and fell on his ass attempting his first field goal. The game was a disaster but here we were running our 'prized' new weapon out onto the field to erase the previous years' ending and he falls down. Classic Jets...

Exactly. He didn't miss the last 8 or 9 weeks of the season, did he?

Feely's got a mouth but he also has balls. Something I want in my kicker. The guy hit clutch kids, the Raiders kick coming to mind and the Pats kick. Imho bringing back Feely is fine, this team needs to concentrate on getting a real punter and not Reggie Hodges/some other washout on a practice squad. Hunter Smith?

just like to point out that Mike Tannenbaum wasnt GM when we trade up for good ol' Santana, and when we draft Bryan Thomas.....

actually i dont even think he was assistant GM yet when Thomas was drafted...

True, but it sure helps when he can.

They chose between the two. Feely wins because he can also tackle.

No dude, I'm confident that had nothing to do with it.

Additionally, the title of the thread says the Jets offered Nugent a contract and he turned it down, so that blows your whole theory right out of the water. Nugent chose to leave.

I knew the guy would get signed somewhere, but when you consider his performance and productivity with the Jets given where he was drafted for a kicker, he was a definite bust. A really, really, "Dumb" draft pick.

Since the Bucs will owe us nothing for signing Nugent, he is a great signing for them.
