this is clemens last contract year if he bombs out the jets will have nothing to do with him if he has a good year he will have nothing to do with the jets and test the free agency with this one good year behind him so bench him and use ratliff
you don't choose a quarterback because of a contract, whether its his or his competitors. you choose a quarterback because he is the best quarterback available.
Just to play devils advocate. What if you do what you say. Clemens hits FA. Signs with another team and goes on to be a good starting QB and Ratliff isnt much of anything. That would look really bad considering he got a little playing time in 2007 and then basically sat on the bench for 06, 08, and 09. It has to be a competition between the two. Let one beat out the other.

If that is the case, then just dump Clemens so he can find his new team sooner than later. The Cardinals should have played Leinart last season instead of Warner because Warner was an upcoming free agent.
