The jets would have as much liability with BF unretired as if, say, Al Toon unretired or someone else who retired prior to their contract expiration. The Jets would have the rights but no automatic liability towards the cap. This said, is Toon's last contract still viable if he came out of retirement? What if Favre unretires not this year but in 5 years? When does the contract become null and void? Would the Jets have to pay 13mm if he comes out or is the last contract null and void upon filing retirement papers?
That's the same question I have. How long does it take for the contract to go null? Is it the moment the papers are filed with the league? What's to stop older players from 'retiring' on their current contracts to force their teams to negotiate a new one in that case? Or would there even be a benefit... you would think that agents had their lawyers exploiting loopholes like that.
farve is still under contract to the jets if he should come back no way the league will allow one player to help one team while another team holds his rights
Good Morning Class, My name is Brett Farve and I have been asked by coach Mangini to come to camp this summer and show both of you the proper way to throw 22 interceptions.....
He never filed last year and that was why he was able to do what he did. At least that was what all the talk was about then and now. Everybody made the point of saying this time he filed. Besides, there are no cap implications. The Jets would just cut him at this point and nobody would say boo about it. It would have been different if they tried to cut him before he announced his retirement. They never would have done it. It was the same with Plummer when he retired. It meant nothing until he filed but once he did it was over. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/02/favre-files-his-retirement-pap.html "This time, Brett Favre appears to be dead serious about staying retired. The future Hall of Fame quarterback has filed his official retirement papers with the league, a person familiar with the situation told the Daily News Wednesday. Favre didn't take that step last March when he retired from the Packers, fueling immediate speculation that he was having second thoughts. As it turned out, those second thoughts became reality in June, when he announced his intentions to return to football. In August, he was traded to the Jets by the Packers. For practical purposes, the primary reason for filing retirement papers is to receive a one-time severance pay. Some retired players wait years before finalizing the paperwork. Symbolically, this means Favre really thinks he's done for good."
Yea but all Mangini asked him to do was stay in shape. I guess thats a bit much to ask. Funny how Kris Jenkins took his advice and had a comeback year.
mangini didn't just ask Rogers to stay in shape. No player would act the way Rogers did over a weight issue. Mangini really fucked up that relationship early. I guaranteed he pulled that shit he did here in bringing a player into the "Principals Office."
