    from Daily News:

He said his final Jets team meeting was emotional and he left the players with a piece of advice. "I told them to make sure they embrace the new coach so they can continue to move forward and continue to build on the things that we've done," Mangini said.

This is why this guy was a good coach, and why I think a lot of us liked him. Even on his way out the door, his focus is on making the players around him as good as they can be.

He was focused too much on making the other teams players look as good as they could.

Mangini might not have been the best coach, but it was very evident the passion and commitment he had towards his players.

I don't think he'll ever be a great Coach, but you never know; I never expected Tom Coughlin to be a winner at anything. For all the crap people say you hear about him, you really can't deny Mangini & Co. built a solid foundation for us and turned the organization in the right direction. He's definitely a goober, but I was really kind of sad to see him go... obviously I've gotten over it.

He is very smart and extremely detailed. If he learned anything from his experience here, he will go on to be a successful HC in this league.

He was focused too much on building the Mangenius brand into a marketable commodity.

Mangini's legacy as the HC of the NYJ can be described as a plane crash. He was cruising along at 20,000ft and all of a sudden, we hit some turbulence and came crashing to earth in a ball of carnage and flames.

I liked Mangini for a while but his rap got old real quick.

Unless he improves on his game day performance, he will suffer in mediocrity for years to come.

He meant well and has good skills as a HC but his in-game coaching which might be the most important for a coach and he kind of sucked at it over the course of the 3 years with us... Now that he's gone i wouldnt be shocked if he suddenly blows teams away in game come next season on.

Fuckers all ways come back to haunt us...

i liked him as a person, but his vagina defensive schemes sucked. I blame Sutton more than him because I really hate Bob Sutton.

I keep reading “He was a good coach” or “He is very smart” or “He knows football” I’m just wondering where this comes from? Was he good when he coached the worst defense in NE in the last decade? Was he good here when he tried to ram belly’s smuggled playbook down our Tampa II defenses throat?

I saw a smug, schmuck ball boy who was in over his head that didn’t do shit here. Good riddance…have fun fucking up Cleveland’s team over the next two years (if it can possibly get worse).

This shit is soo old, we talked about this back whenever he left. There's nothing new in this thread. He never showed emotion on the field, just looked scared and worried.

Agreed, Mangini helped build a foundation, but he will never make it in Cleveland. He is doomed there as a head coach.

Pittsburgh will beat the browns twice every year for the rest of eternity, Baltimore will either split or beat them twice, Cincy will splite or lose twice.

when the jets beat the titans all the jet guys were hailed as a sb team ----then the roof caved in------its a combo of many things----the D was bad giving up all those points to denver and sf

the O couldnt score against seattle

miami game was close except for that flea flicker that chad threw after we got ahead in the 3rd Q ----enuf blame to go around for everyone

i think the wrong guy got fired-----mangini won 4 games in 2007 and had us as sb contenders after 11 games in 2008 (8-3)

farve couldnt hit his receivers in the seattle game with his dinged up arm

in the miami gam he hit the dolphs three times ---one for the td that deceided the game

oh well thats what it means to be a jet fan

We had pathetically easy schedules in '06 and '08. We had a difficult one in '07 and will again this year. I believe that has much or more to do with Mangini's results than anything he ever did. People like to credit Mangini for the players drafted and signed as FAs but that was all Tannenbaum just as it is now too.

I was thinking the same thing. I suppose that people have gone from fellating Herm and Chad to now fellating Mangini.

Whether the guy should even be a head coach today remains to be seen. He rode Bellichek's coat tails in NE, was only a DC for one season (a season where the D was quite un-remarkable), had the good fortune of a very soft schedule his first year and was a terrible game manager.

Yeah, he was great- I'll really miss the putz.
