http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/03/kellen-fueled-by-lack-of-respe.html Kellen Clemens was refreshingly candid today in his interview session with reporters, admitting that, yes, the Jay Cutler rumors can be distracting and that, yes, he's motivated when people say the Jets don't have a starting-caliber quarterback on their roster. Clemens went through a similar situation last summer, listening to Brett Favre rumors for the first two weeks of training camp. "It's an interesting thing, preparing to try to be a major contributor to a football team and there's always all the rumors that are floating around," he said. "At times, it can be distracting. I'm not going to lie. It's not something like, 'Oh, Jay could be here, that's great.' You try to ignore it and focus on things under your control. "I try to dismiss it as best I can, but it's easier said than done." Clemens also acknowledged that he's motivated by the naysayers -- and there are plenty of them. "I've heard it," he said. "I try not to listent to it, but some of it leaks through ... It certainly is a motivating thing to think that myself and the two other guys in the locker room at the position (Brett Ratliff and Erik Ainge) are getting overlooked. But, at the same time, I understand this market and what goes into it." New coach Rex Ryan has gushed about all three quarterbacks, giving the impression that he's perfectly happy with hus current depth chart. Clemens appreciates the support. "That's a huge boost, going into the minicamps and offseason, with a coach you haven't played for, who didn't draft you, can publicly come out -- even before minicamp -- and say that," Clemens said. "It does a lot for a quarterback." That's fine and dandy, but if the Jets go out and trade for Cutler, Ryan will look like a double talker, which could hurt his credibility in the locker room. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- April, May, June, July, August, September.... yay!!!!
Did we need another thread of Kellen or anything about the QB position for that matter? This could have and should have went in the thread about the Interview thread with Kellen, Ratliff and Ainge, lol but its the offseason and its all good in my eyes, fuck it I even said in that interview thread that Kellen seems to have a chip on his shoulder with a burning desire to prove a lot of people wrong and thats always a good thing for a QB...I hope he gets the starting nod
Did we need a thread about what player we should draft outside of the draft forum? Nope, but it did not stop you. Perhaps you should learn where to post things before acting like a jerkoff to another poster. A nice article all in all. Seems mroe like a Kellen Fluff peice worthy of the Main jets site, but its a very slow time of year.
You're a fraud Kellen!! Go back to the FARM where you BELONG!!! Heheh.. there's some motivational feed for his fire. Yeah, until they pick up another QB... then watch that balloon whip around the Jet camp making that whiney noise until it's totally deflated and laying on the ground.
Wasnt being a dick, thats not my style, I like NDmick as a poster and if you read my post...I said its all good
Lets try this again, lol, it's a good thread... I guess people just took it the wrong way. Im really pulling for this kid as our next Starting QB. With Kellen actually sitting behind Pennington and Favre for all of these years -- This could actually be a blessing that some Jet fans seem to over look...Some feel it's a negative that Kellen has learned behind a smart QB in Chad Pennington, along with a future HOF QB in Farve, if anything...I bet he's walked away with a lot of football 101 over the years as a backup and a lot of young QB's such as Ryan Leaf were never given an oppurtunity such as the one that Kellen has had here in NY and now it's time the kid makes the best of it. I also think that 2007 was the best thing that could have ever happened to Kellen as far as his career goes. I think that starting behind an O-Line with Montgomery as the LG with Clement as the RT has made Kellen a stronger QB for the simple fact...You gotta lean how to lose before you know how to win and with Kellen, he had no O-Line along with no rushing attack and still won some games as a starter that year. Give Kellen a HOF LG in Faneca with a solid veteran RT in Woody with three more young veterans on the O-Line with Ferguson, Mangold and Moore along with a solid run game and tough Defense and watch this kid have a different year that 2007, watch this man have a winning year because in 2007 he had none of the above. Like I've been saying, it seems that Kellen has a chip on his shoulder and a burning desire to become the Jets starting QB, he's not a QUITTER like some NFL QB's and that what I respect... He's still hanging in there and competing for a starting job, what more can we ask for? Some people honestly feel that Kellen sitting behind Favre and Pennington is a knock on his talent, potential and career where I feel the opposite...I think it's a blessing that Kellen has had the chance to learn behind two very good QB's instead of just being "Thrown into the fire" like he was in 07 (Along with many of other young QB's that never made it)
Screw KC and his hurt pride, he had a silly grin on his face the whole time Penny was the one with a target on his back, now its his turn to go through that. The wheel of life has turned for KC, now he's the one being chased by a more athletic, younger QB who wants his job.
Give me a break with that garbage, Kellen was nothing but a class act while Chad was the QB and never made any media noise either
Well I hope it doesn't take lack of respect to get him to perform in the NFL. If he's concerned about what the fans think the Jets might as well trade for Vince Young.
I've said it plenty of times: Kellen, go out and show me something. I'll be the first one on this board congratulating the kid and happily admitting I was wrong.
