You guys have me wanting them both if they are there at our second pick. But I hesitate on carpenter because reading the other day he is coming off I (think a knee injury/ not really sure if that was correct). But the question I have to you guys is would you spend the 2nd first rounder on him or go with mangold...saying that we didn't pick D-brick with the 4th.
Bobby Carpenter, great 3-4 OLB... I think that the signing of Teague shows that the Jets have faith in Norm Katnik, but they may feel that he needs another year or two to learn the position better
I think we have to take Mangold hands down if they are both there. Center is aposition of far greater need then OLB
I think it's hard to read the signing of Teague. You could be right but it also very well may turn out that the Jets brass intended to draft Mangold from the beginning and the Teague signing showed that they don't have faith in Katnik, even as a backup. I would pick Mangold with the #29 and hope that Carpenter falls to #35. My reasoning: If we don't draft Carpenter we can hopefully land a Thomas Howard in the 2nd round, or just go into the season with our current linebackers (which would not be awful.) If we don't draft Mangold there is no other really good center prospect, and we cannot go into the season with Teague at center if we want to win (unless the rest of the line is greatly upgraded.)
i would love carpenter in green but the o line needs serious help. the teague signing feels odd. i dont remember being intimidated by buffalos line
Carpenter, as dwalsh said he's a great 3-4 OLB. We already signed Trey Teague and have two young guys with upside (Missant and Katnik).
:breakdance: I would be elated if it ended up like that :breakdance: EDIT: I just realized that Mangold and Hawk were roomates in college.....how weird would it be not only if we had the two of them on the team, but also Carpenter playing the other OLB...
So we should take the fourth or fifth best OLB in the draft over the #1 Center in the draft. We have to look at the value of the pick. Carpenter could very well be a good pro. But in Mangold you have the best talent at his postition in the draft. Everyone keeps talking about BPA ... well folks ... at #29 if he is still there ... BPA is Mangold.
Didn't we already have a Bobby (Rob) Carpenter? I believed he was a WR who was the #2 to Rob Moore. eh, Just alil sumfin for the Youngins
hey man i remember us arguing a while back....but i have to admit, you make a great point about mangold here....my first thoughts were def. carpneter, but you make a point about how mangold is the only GREAT center prsopect in the draft....that pretty much got me thinking hard about this one....i would say it's a very tough call
hate to double post, but def. agree with this post 100%.....lawson or wimbley lasting till 29 would be so great for us, we would have to take them....and then yes, winston, mcneil, or mangold at 35
