who the fuck is o'day again? this guy stinks how many awful performances are we going to have to suffer through with this clown before people stop making excuses for him because someone he knew died
A starter who can't pitch into the 6th inning, a bullpen with a WHIP of 3.00 and an ERA of 7.36, and an offense that leaves 14 runners on base. Sound familiar? I really hate the Marlins, by the way.
the starter going 5 innings was all manuel's fault. maine had 80 stress free pitches, there was only one guy on base the whole game and he really settled down after the early HRs.
I really can't imagine that Murphy would look any worse at 2nd base as he does in LF, 2nd base is an easier position to play as well, especially considering Murphy was an infielder first. I don't get the thinking with him in left field, the lineup is much better with him at 2nd and a platoon of Sheff, Tatis & Reed in left.
He played 3B in the minors, I would imagine it is an easier transition to play 2nd than the outfield. He clearly doesn't look comfortable in the outfield so far and probably won't put up the power numbers needed to play LF, especially when we have automatic outs at 2nd and C. It is my opinion that 2nd base is the easiest position to play in baseball.
dude 2nd base is probly the 3rd hardest position to play, specifically for a guy like murphy, without much lateral motion. he would have a very hard time moving laterally and fielding the ball and have an even hard time with the wierd arm angles he would have to throw from
Okay, then with the first and second sentences I'll agree with you. I don't agree with the third one, though. I happen to think left field is the easiest position to play. In Little League ball and Baseball USA camps, I would always play 2B, 3B, or SS because those positions were more difficult and had more action.
Supposedly Tatis is going to be getting some playing time at 2b. I can see why the Mets want to leave Murphy out in LF, presumably he's going to get better as time goes on. There really isn't a whole lot to OF play other than reading the ball off the bat and while he's looking shaky going after balls he hasn't screwed anything up yet.
he looks better than lastings milledge (sp?) did at this point in the outfield to me. and milledge was an outfielder throughout the minors. i think he will be fine.
Not a single comment about today's game? I was away all day, but it appears that Hernandez did a good job, Reyes, Delgado, and Church did well, and Castillo (!!!!) was 4-for-4??????
I saw most of the game but wasn't near a computer. Not sure what was up with the weird start time though, I looked a bit after 7 and it was in the 4th inning already. I'm not sure how long pitchers will keep grooving fastballs right down the middle to Castillo if he keeps swinging at them before he gets 2 strikes like he did today, but anything the Mets get from him at this point is a bonus I guess. Darren O'Day still sucks. He's constantly behind in the count and his stuff is nothing special. Still not sure why this guy made the team.
I was at work  I listened to the top of the 8th when the Mets really opened the game up so I stopped listening (I had been on break for 27 minutes when I only have 15).
Murphy played some 2b during winter ball and played some in the minors. Here's an old blurb on him before he was called up: Safe to say the Mets don't think much of his 2B ability. At one point he had 9 errors in 31 games there in the minors. If he keeps hitting he can play all the average defense he wants.
Will Carroll actually floated an idea like this in his Mets blurb for SI's baseball preview, invoking Davey Johnson's name. Suggested using Murph and Tatis at second base when an extreme flyball pitcher like Santana or Perez is pitching. Can definitely see the logic in subbing Reed for Castillo, not really losing anything offensively, and have an outstanding outfield defense when one of those guys is on the mound.
2nd base is NOT the easiest position to play. When it come to turning double plays, it's harder than SS.
Why do people fucking use one hand when catching the ball? It was pounded into my head playing little league that you always use two hands, no matter how routine. I fucking love Murphy at the plate and hate him in the outfield. Now it's 2-0 when it should be 0-0 and the inning over.
