I would take a young prospect like Lowrie over Lugo any day of the week! Just like the Rays #1 draft pick of last year (Tim Beckham) It takes a while for young short stops to come into their own and thats the reason why you may not be sold on Lowrie as of right now, but let me tell you something that you should already know, this kid will be ALOT better than Lugo within the next 2-3 seasons. If I were the Red Sox, I wouldnt even let Lugo see the field, I would go with Lowrie in a second because I've seen him play and that kid is raw but he has alot of potential
^Oh well if TBJF85 has seen the kid play he must be good! (Not good enough to crack that unbelievable Rays lineup though)
I thought he was pretty good and your right, he cant crack the Rays lineup as of right now only because we are set with Bartlett @ short stop for right now. JB is one of the better defensive short stops in the AL as of right now and he also makes a good 2nd leadoff hitter out of the 9 hole...But this thread is about the Red Sox and I just think Lowrie is a solid prospect and I also feel that Lugo is garbage...Im glad he's not with the Rays anymore
Well it looks like re-signing Bay is going to have to wait for awhile. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2009/03/bay_extension_t.html
We may finally be getting our "catcher of the future" Peter Gammons says: And stolen from mlbtraderumors: Hopefully it's from one of those 2 bolded teams. Teagarden or Salty would look great in Fenway.
Lester has been shelled two games in a row. Matsuzaka left the game after the first inning with "arm fatigue." I guess we're going to get to see some of that vaunted Boston rotation depth than the knuckleheads up here keep trying to go on and on about.
sox got ALOT of problems, Ortiz was never that good and without manny, its starting to show. Lowell is just old and sucks now, and i think the mlb has figured out Ellsbury. Its going to be a long year in the al east for the red sux
First 2009 game for me Friday night. Walked into the park at the top of the second inning. Roads closed, Marathoners everywhere, and general chaos in the city. Made me late, but it was such a long friggin game it didn't seem to matter. Sat down and watched as Brad Penny's implosion convinced me it would be a shitty night. Fortunately. . . . Anyway, the park looks great. A few new signs that I wasn't all that keen on. But, they've redone several of the concourses and added the standard 90th fresh coat of paint. They've also added several dedicated standing room areas, presumably to pack more people in, but it kept the concourses clear, which was nice.
Heh, I was there too, and it was my game of '09 too. Sat in the grandstand one the first base side. I thought I heard during the off-season that they had torn up all those wooden blue seats that are insufferable for anyone over 6 ft or 180 pounds. I was false in this assumption. They were still there, and still ridiculously crammed. On the plus side, amazing game, and Fenway is still ridiculously awesome.
Largest crowd since World War II. Or so the scoreboard said. My next game is in May against the Rays. I imagine that will be a busy weekend of baseball.
A few thoughts: - I'm not hating Nick Green as much as I thought I might. Appreciate how qualified that statement is. He took his overachieving pills today. - Whose idea were the stoopid fahking Earth Day yooneeforms?! May as well have them all wear panties. - Youkilis! Geezus. - Papi. . . . eh. . . . Gotta meet us all halfway. - Brad Penny is going to drive me crazy all year long. He'll have one great start for every three grinds. - Seems that Varitek has decided he's going to make up average with the long ball. I'm okay with that. It's something. - I think I'm going to like Ramon Ramirez a lot. - The WBC fahking sahks. - There's just nothing bad about Justin Masterson wherever he pitches. - John Lester. Umm. . . . the season's started, JL. - Sox Bullpen > Sox Starters. Both should be strong in mid-July. - Clay Buchholz is clearly disinterested in Pawtucket. The question is: Which z-ending pitcher sees Boston first - Buchholz or Smoltz. - Sign JayBay. - Tough to see Rocco hit the DL. Really wanted that dude to have a strong, injury-free year. - Ellsbury has picked it up and doing okay, but he STILL needs to walk more. - Aside from Ortiz (when he's hitting) I'm wondering which of our hitters is best suited for the new Coorkees Fieldium. That exhausts my thoughts for right now. I'm sure I have more to say. A good string of games, though. After a run of losses, I'm sure I'll have different thoughts.
the earth day uniforms are the St Patricks day uni's with a different patch on the sleeve, also they wore them because it was a doubleheader, you need 2 sets of unis. As for lester he was filthy his last start
Yes, I recognize that. My point has more to do with the idea of honoring something as foolish as "Earth Day" with an alternate uniform.
What I don't understand about the jerseys is why they left the St. Patrick's day shamrock patch on them. Good lord are those things hideous.
I'm feeling pretty good about this team. The starting rotation has been a bit shaky thus far, but it's bound to improve. Lester's last start was really encouraging, Becket has been so-so, and Daisuke is on the DL. I predict Wake's dominance ends just about when the slump the rest of the rotation is in does too. Offense has been solid, bullpen lights out. This is going to be a fun year.
If I had to guess, I'd say they werent planning on using them at all. But the DH made it necesary to use a second uni, so they just slapped on the Recycle crap and threw them out.
No I'm pretty sure it was planned, because they were getting some award from the EPA on that day, and the Administrator of the EPA was throwing out the first pitch
