Raiders might be trading their best pass rusher D Burgess to the Patriots for a 2 or thid rounder in 2010. Hopefully Raiders keep Burgess next season and make him just situational pass rusher. In that role he easily gets 10 plus sacks next year.

Reports: Pats interested in acquiring Oakland?s Burgess
According to a report first on ESPN, and later corroborated by WEEI?s Christopher Price, the Patriots are considering a trade that would send a second-or-third-round draft pick to Oakland for Raiders linebacker Derrick Burgess.

The acquisition of Burgess would finally help fill the void at outside linebacker created by the trade of Mike Vrabel. The two-time Pro Bowler is in the final year of his contract with Oakland. He is said to be unhappy with not being able to reach a new deal.

Burgess, who will be 31 at the start of next season, had 16 sacks for the Raiders in 2005, but he?s been slowed by injuries in recent seasons.

Last week, Pats Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio said the team was happy with the group of outside linebackers it had in-house, but left open the possibility for something to happen.

?I think we feel comfortable with the football team where it currently stands,? he said, ?but we still have another 3 or 4 months before we actually play a football game. A lot can happen between now and then.?

I hope this trade is done. Strip the Pats of a pick and give it to a team that is going to waste it on someone who runs a 4.1. This is great for the rest of the AFC.

YEa Like Raiders sixth rounder Trevor scott showed so much more potential than jets 6th pick vernon gholston. Heck Raiders undrafted FA greyson Gunheim showed more potential, than gholston.

As pathetic as that sounds, it's a better investment per sack than Mr. Gholston!

As for the trade, I have a hard time believing that the Pats see Burgess as a possible OLB. He's not the heaviest guy but he looks like a guy who needs to play with his hand in the dirt to me.

With the Pats getting all these over 30 players I figure Belicheck is counting on another Super Bowl run next year. You don't sign Springs and Taylor and possibly Burgess to be good down the road, you sign players this old to be good right now.

I'm alot more comfortable with them potentially aquiring Burgess than Peppers. Not overly concerned about it, you know he will make plays but not a game changer. So be it.

The point is, both players did very little.

It works for both scenarios. They help you make a run this year, and they come off the cap to clear space for the future. I think Burgess is 30 this year?

Unless Burgess goes back to sacking the QB 15 times. Then he could be a game changer.

No the point is one was activated just the last game of the season (greyson Gunheim was o n practice squad all season) and Vernon gholston was on roster for 16 weeks. Yet that guy that just played in one game had more sacks than the sixth pick in the draft and might have had more tackles in a game (not counting special teams) Now if Grteyson Gunther was on the roster for sixteen games and not just one , than you can say both didn't do much.

Actually he was on the roster for weeks 10 and 11 and notched a tackle in week 11. Raiders coach said he wasnt ready and sent him back down to the squad and called him up the last game of the season

No Raiders activated from the practice squad because they didn't want to risk someone stealing him off their practice squad. Only time Greyson got playing time outside of special teams was the last game.

    Greyson Gunheim

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This guy put up very good numbers at his proday and his over body of work compares favorably with the other type DE's in the draft. Could be the same type of player as Gholston but more value since he would be more of a sleeper pick.

You blew it, Joe. Now you're spelling 'acquisition' correctly? You're done, dude.
