get it sorted but dont give him 6 mill. thats nuts. 4.5 and put some incentive or a nice signing bonus to not put too much of a hit on the cap.
This isn't good. He's my boy, but 6 is just too much. 5 tops including incentives is what he's worth right now.
how can he ask for 6 right now? part of being a team player, a trait i had been commending him for, is realizing the team just took a huge cap hit and really needs him to take a contract with more incentives than guaranteed pay out. 4.5-5 is a good number.
This shit all fucking started when Leon hired this new agent. Fuck him. But please Jets, just give him the money, he deserves it. 5 mil should be plenty.
Nobody else will either. If he wants a big contract, from the Jets or anyone else, it simply isn't going to be that big. Note though that the article says Washington "is believed to be" seeking $6 million per. So I'll hold out hope that he's not that delusional.
If we hadn't traded up for MS there would be enough cap room to sign everybody. I don't think both MS and LW can get the contracts they want with the current salary cap situation.
On average how many carries did he have last year per game? Seemed like 3 or 4. Sad. More production is wanted. But not for 6 million!
This is only happening because gayass San Diego franchised Sproles who is considered an identical player... We should definitely stand firm at $4.5 million... He's an unreal playmaker but hasn't done enough to warrant a $6 million/per long term deal.
Why should he acknowledge that? His job isn't to make us happy, it's to get the best deal possible for Leon.
I read a similar article and it had more quotes in it. I know Leon wants to practice. I can read that in what he is saying.
6 Mill a year is too high for Leon. But, we do get a lot out of him. Hopefully they get this resolved ASAP.
If he wants $6 million a year, you can't "just sign the guy." Darren Sproles is going to make $6 million this year because that's what the franchise tag calls for. But he's not going to get a multi-year deal that pays him $6 million a year either; note how he doesn't have one. If he actually wants to be paid like Sproles, they should say, OK, when you're up for unrestricted free agency, we'll franchise you, too. Then you'll make your $6 million for one year, if that's how you want things to work. But I suspect Washington's agent wouldn't go for that.
I think you can just sign the guy ... if he's da future. That would send a strong message to up and coming players about the quality of the jets organization.
"The future" is a committee of Shonn Greene and Washington, ideally. We don't KNOW that, but that's what the team is hoping for and obviously believed when they traded up to draft Greene. So if the ideal is a 50-50 split between Greene and Washington, you don't pay one of them $6 million.
6 million is nuts, he is worth no more then 3 million, the guy isnt a starting calbier player, he is effective when utilized in a situational role, if we gave him 20+ carries a game his career would be over in a yr. if he wants to whine about his contract let him, missing training camp only hurts him as he will rack up massive fines, lose grip on the offense, and in turn will hurt his production thus lowering his market value. if he does happen to still produce we can just franchise him and go yr to yr, the jets have all the leverage, its the same reason thomas jones isnt getting a contract. if you give out a contract to ever complaining player everyone will want one
