I've noticed a definate trend in draft discussions this year to dismiss logic by calling it a smokescreen whenever convenient. For example, in a current thread somebody pointed out that Ed Werder reported that Reggie Bush is #1 on the Saints' draft board. The next poster replied that this was clearly just a smokescreen so they could get more value by trading the pick. Similarly there was a discussion about whether or not the Jets not having interviewed Vernon Davis was just a smokescreen so people wouldn't know that they're planning to draft him. Other teams don't just make stuff up to benefit the Jets. My rant is over, I just thought that was worth mentioning.
Yeah seriously, the terms "smokescreen", along with "Mangini guy", are so misused and overused. Its really starting to piss me off
There is no doubt that the all of the clubs, especially those at or near the top of the draft order, release 'disinformation' to the press.....we will find out just how much of the stories doing the rounds from the various franchises predraft are true or not after this weekend. In other words we won't find out if something is a smokescreen until a couple of days from now.
One I hate the most is when people bring up trading down from 4 for a "King's Ransom." Like teams are falling all over themselves to get ripped off by us.
