Either Rex is the eternal optimist, or he is bragging up his mediocre players as a prelude to moving them. The latter scenario seems likely when I recently heard him gush about the jets 3 biggest underachievers on their roster--Brad Smith, Eric Smith and Bryan (invisible) Thomas. During/after minicamp Rex was calling Brad some kind of mega talent, comparing Eric the Nobody to Ed Reed, and talking about Bryan Thomas's speed rush as if the guy was Lawrence Taylor. Actually, I was hoping one or more of these "stars" was going to be part of a Braylon Edwards trade since we would be giving up next to nothing. The way Pennington and every other QB exposed Eric Smith's inability to cover a TE, I'm surprised Smith lasted this long. As for Bryan Thomas, only Drob "robbed" the jets of more $$$$ for so long without any serious production. Brad Smith? Go back and watch the 2007 Thanksgiving game v. Cowboys. I also think it's funny that Rex compares Eric Smith to Ed Reed AND he brags up Bryan Thomas, since Reed is the guy most of us thought dingdong Bradway should have taken instead of Thomas in 2002.
is this just your opinion? is this an article? and how on earth are we moving three pieces of trash for Edwards? Hell why dont we just send them straight up for Brandon Marshall instead?
Another Tomdeb post where he whines for an entire big block of text likely? I would have to say the odds are in the favor of one.
I'm all for them if they are protecting valuable discussions, but this thread is like a brand new Mercedes sitting unlocked and running on a Harlem street corner.
yeah lol it sucks that theres not a way to define legitimate hijacking... some of those were hilarious. like the post a pic of your gf thread.
^Yea, that one was classic. Although, I think this right here technically could be considered hijacking. /Head splits open from force of ban-hammer!
The guy had an opinion and raised some valid points. Why are you jumping all over his cock anyway? Try reading through threads on the main page and beyond right now- in most cases you'll find better quality elsewhere.
Your premise that Ryan praises mediocre players as a way to encourage other teams to trade for them is flawed. Other team's GMs don't make moves based on Ryan talking somebody up. Meanwhile, Ryan has no reason not to say good things about players on his own team, whether he sincerely believes it or is just trying to be positive and/or instill confidence. What does it hurt? And where's the gain in him trashing somebody? If the Jets hope to acquire a young, franchise-type wideout along the lines of Braylon Edwards, it doesn't matter who Ryan talks up or doesn't talk up. They'll still have to give up a high draft pick and any marginal player involved will probably be a throw-in type of guy, ala Brett Ratliff. Marginal veterans aren't going to be the primary part of any trade for a talented player.
I think Rex Ryan should continously berate those 3 players in the media at all times. This way, if they weren't underachievers before, all their confidence will be shattered so there will be no way of them cashing in on their potential. I don't care if a reporter even asks the question about them, he should change the subject. "Hey Rex, how's the QB competion shaking up?" "Well Mark threw an interception today but Brad Smith wouldn't have caught it anyway. It's tough to make an evaluation though because Mark and Kelling had all day because Bryan Thomas' version of a speed rush is slower then Kris Jenkin's time from end to end of the buffet table. The rest of the defense is flying around like Jets but Bryan Thomas is moving about as fast as the luggage carousel at JFK" (media cracks up).
i think we should do the opposite so we can raise what huge value these players have for braylon edwards.
