There was no player that got bashed more in the 2004 draft then poor Eric Coleman. His 40 time was not fast enough and the experts saw this as a wasted pick and a major reach. The draft is a crapshoot. There are busts in the first round and great players taken in later rounds. Only time will tell if it's a good draft. After 3 years, we will know if it was a good draft or not.
well after 2 years. coleman hasnt exactly quieted all the questions and concerns in fact there are some on here who would like him replaced.. but that said he is more than servicable so i guess your right but coleman was a what 5th, 6th rd pick? smith is our highest drafted safety on the team in the 3rd rd.
it doesnt matter, we passed on bing/simpson for a scrub. i just wanna know why the jets continually f*** up picks in the draft. i mean what could u possibly see in e smith who is probably not in the top 20 of safeties this year....
You're right- you obviously know more than we do, and much more than the front office. In fact, I think that YOU sir should march down to Radio City right now and tell them that you want your old GM/Master Scouter title back. I'm sorry that this transition crew has caused you so much angst.
I love how we call Smith a scrub when we haven't seen him on the field yet. He was a productive player in college and he's got really good size for a safety. If Bing and Simpson were so great, they would have been taken by now. I mean, sure, there's a chacne Bing and Simpson could be great, but who says they were fits for this defense? Neither one is really NFL-ready right now, but Smith can contribute right away and play well.
I agree. I think Smith is a better fit for Mangini's defense. Mangini wouldn't have drafted him if he didn't think Smith is going to be good. Let everything pan out and judge Smith after we've seen him on the field.
