My wife defined the 2 days perfectly by saying that ESPN stands for; E .... Every S .... Statistic P .... Possible N ..... NOW Did you reallycare that the pick was the 1st that team made in X years at that position !!!!!
It was a disgrace. For starters did it bother anyone else that the lead in story to open the draft was about Bush's family problems? They made it sound like he was caught with crack or something.. They don't even discuss the picks anymore.. The first day by mid round one I was watching the NFL networks coverage, it was much better..
The entire draft needs to change.Teams do not need 15 minutes to make a pick they had all off-season to think about.5 minutes if there is a possibility of a trade you push a button and get another 2 minutes thats it.The entire 2 days dragged out and waste of time.
I am beginning to dislike ESPN. Especially Sportcenter. I don't like how dumbed down the coverage is for casual fans and I really dislike the baiting often dishonest headlines they run to attempt to trick people into watching. ESPN 20 uears ago used to be a channel for sports geeks. Now its just to mainstream and dumbed down. I prefer the NFL network a lot more. The NFL network at least IMO does talk down to people as much and is more geared towards football geeks than ESPN. That being said I watched most of the draft on the NFL network but found myself switching back to ESPN because ESPN had the more upto date coverage after the first round. While the NFL network focused more on interviews and anyalsis which that took the attention and their coverage away from the current picks.
NFL Network did a good job and will be even better next year. Corey Chavous is better than Mel Kiper IMO.
Serious? Do you realize that teams get several phone calls for picks, make calls, re-list their board, and make hundreds of moves when they are on the clock? 15 mins. is just fine. It's the fans who complain about it because they have to sit there a do nothing. The Draft is NOT for the fans, we are mere spectators being allowed to look in while the teams restructure the future of their franchise. EOS
I dont like how Chris Berman tries to look smart by "predicting" the pick before its made when in reality he knows the pick before Tag's even announces it. For example when Jacksonville was picking Berman was like "I wouldnt be shocked to see them taking a big TE here" or when the Bills were picking early he would be like "I think the bills might shock a lot of people here". That has got to stop and I wouldn't mind seeing ESPN replace Berman with someone else.
I listened on the radio, and it was Green and Green, who sucked TBH. The skinny Green ruined every single pick, "Here comes Tagliabue, but according to my little screen the *team* picked *player*. Good Pick. Anyways, back to what I was saying..." Fucken rediculous
ESPN was absolutely HORRIBLE. They are doing all this fluff crap, while trades are going down, picks being made, but it looked more like some sort of "post draft special" instead of staying on top of what was going on. Irvin is just AWFUL! Lest someone tell me I'm.... well, I'll just say Tom Jackson was good, and Tory Holt was excellent. Irvin is a mindless tool. A mouth without a brain. I really hope I can get NFL network next year. ESPN embarrassed themselves repeatedly. It was just awful.
The trade coverage sucked balls, the stupid conversations with Salisbury Steak and the gang were unnecessary, Trey Wingo was horrible in his video conferences with coaches as usual because he sounded like he was reading off a teleprompter (they aren't supposed to make it seem like that, even though they are reading off teleprompters). Kolber kept saying, "okay we're gonna wrap things up" for like 5 straight commercial breaks. The whole thing was a collapse of ESPN. Overall: D-
Cory Chavous was impressive! The guy was incredibly well spoken, and seemed to have really done his homework. He definitely has a future as an analyst.
I thought the NFL Network coverage was so much better even though I had to watch the espn coverage to start off the 4th round as they were showing NFLE on the NFLNetwork Fran
Sadly I don't get NFL Networks in NYC... I thought ESPN was pretty lame. The studio stuff was, as usual, strong and with some insight, but the stuff at Radio City was terrible. Why in God's name Irvin is sitting at that table is beyond me. He offers nothing. Nada. There were times Mortenson looked so uncomfortable...
It seemed to me, watching ESPN that everyone had a full stocking the morning after Christmas. I didn't notice much criticism... it seemed to be mostly talking everyone up.
