Stuckey's recent success must've buried Clowney on the depth chart....I didn't see him on the field at all yesterday. Did the CS "Shonn Green" him? I guess he's destined to be a preseason wunderkid....unless Schotty decides to employ some 4 receiver sets in the offensive play calling.
I saw him on the filed for at least one play yesterday. He must not practice well at all, I mean he can't even beat out Brad Stinkin Smith for the 3rd WR spot, forget about Stuckey, who BTW did not have a great game yesterday.
I think they'll still find a spot for him, it's just a matter of opening up the playbook as Sanchez gets better. I think we'll see him, but I don't expect a major contribution. He seems fairly one dimensional at this point, and that puts him behind Smith, Stuckey, and Cotchery. -X-
I was looking for him, didn't see him in--could have missed it but he didn't do anything. I still think he has potential to bee a deep threat, or at least show him to the D and stretch the field a bit. We're only two games into Sanchez's career as starter, maybe they will spring him down the road a piece. I don't know that we're yet seeing the finished product on offense right now.
I thought the mindset regarding Clowney was that he was supposed to fill the role of "deep threat".....and coming out of Training camp, I figured he was well on his way. Perhaps, you're right....as the playbook opens up for Sancho....so will Clowney's participation in the offense. I just found it weird the CS was high on Clowney during preseason....then the Brandon Marshall interest happened, and now the supposed Crabtree tampering allegations. Clowney must've done himself in somehow......causing Tanny to become desperate to acquire a viable deep threat for Sanchez
He definitely suited up. I saw one shot of him in uniform sitting next to Sanchez on the bench. But his lack of playing time is definitely curious. Wonder what he is doing, or not doing, in practice.
Seemed like he was doing better when everyone was annoyed by his Twitter account. Maybe he should get back to that. Holla!
I think this statement is right on and what we saw yesterday in the 2nd half only slightly resembles what's coming. I say this because Schottenheimer was playing it so close to the vest in the 1st half it was frustrating, at least to me it was. Maybe the way they called this game plan was on purpose from the very start so as not to give BillyChick a look at what the 2nd half would bring, or maybe it was just that Sanchez is still so green and they didn't want to chance turnovers, but there was a vast difference between the 1st and 2nd halves. 1st half, it's Jones (and even Leon) up the middle for little to no gain (God, I HATE Leon up the middle. And I know, yeah, but if he breaks out of the first tier, look out)... but we were clearly going nowhere offensively and it had to be killing our DEF to be out there all the time. We needed to do something after the half, and do it we did. Had we continued stubbornly trying to "run first" we probably would have lost the game (Mangini would have "stayed the course" I'm sure. But they decided we had nothing to lose and gave Sanchez the opportunity to air it out. It was a totally different look and the kid really did well, much better than any of us, including BB thought he would. So now there's a whole new Era forming. It's going to involve letting Sanchez test the passing waters again with each new game, and in so doing, get others involved (like Clowney). Look for Stuckey to get more now too. Maybe some more "pass first" to bring on the run. Subsequent games are going to be VERY exciting to watch this season as the OFF starts to layer on and perfect new stuff that can be done. I used to think we had to have the one, big, Moss-like WR but now I'm thinking Sanchez can get it done with the tools he already has, Keller included.
We will need to get Clowney and Brad Smith involved more with the offense. I'm not looking at the stat sheets, but I believe Cotchery and Stuckey are the only two WR that are catching any passes. Keller and Leon have also been productive in catching, but we will need to throw to more than two WR
While Clowney is a stright line burner, I'm guessing that his hands and route running are holding him back. He's not much of a threat if thats the case. I hope the kid finds a way to get in the game and prove to have some value, but its just not happening for him atm.
right now, i do not care where he is or what he is doing, we're winning without him. so obviously we do not need him on the field at this point in time.
