Hey guys I just got here yesterday and saw our results late last night and again this morning. I am pretty happy with taking D'Brick, I wanted to all along, and Mongold at 29 is good but i thought we'd pick a diff position because of Teague. Anyways, I was confused about all the changed we made regarding picks in the second and hird rounds. What are the details on all the trading around of pics that we did? Did we get any players in any of the transcations that we made with the 35th pick and a couple pf the others? If not, I am not too happy about trading away that 35th pick. Also, Taking Clemens where we did was entirely too early, I would have preferred Whitehurts or even Reggie McNeal because he is so fast..... Leinart at 10 eh,. wow.....I have always thought he is alot better than Young and I still believe he will have a better NFL career. It is a great move by the Cardinals definitely. I think Buffalo should have taken him or Cutler personally...But Reggie not going first...what a mistake by the Texans and amazing move by the Saints. Hell of an offseason for New Orleans no doubt. Brees and Bush are gonna light it up especially if they get some supposrt from Stallworth and Horn. I am pretty with the first round of the draft but after that I seriously have to say I am a little disappointed unlesswe filled some holes with players involved with trading out picks. I see we had trades with Dallas, Washington, and Philly and would like to know what the details were if anyone can please fill me in. To sum up, I wish we had taken some guys like Greg Jennings from Western Michigan or Reggie McNeal from Texas in the later rounds. Hopefully the staff sees something we don't because I honestly never heard of most of the guys we took after round 1, except for a couple, and I think I did a fair amount of pre-draft research. Anyways, if you guys can fill me in on any details of the trades and whatever I have left out I would appreciate it.
When all was said and done with the trades the Jets ended up with an extra 6th rounder this year and Washington's 2nd rounder next year.
well thats certainly pretty shitty....i would have to assume that most of us here are pretty unhappy with the draft after round 1 eh...... a 5 foot 8 running back?? Please.... whatever...but its pretty weird that there were so many players available that were seen as promising prospects and not only did we draft none of them, we traded away pick for what you guys are telling me was a rip off.... we should have picked at 35, no doubt about it, that's 3 picks out of the firs round and a ton of guys would have been left......i dont get it...even after reading your explanations I have to assume you've left something out but maybe our f.o. is jus stupid and got dooped...
actually most of us are pretty happy with dBrick, Mangold n Clemens ... but after that .. i guess FO celebrated too early n got drunk :drunk:
There are a lot of Jets fans in Australia because of Ben Graham; and many of these have now graduated beyond being 'Ben Graham fans' to being the real deal in terms of Jets fanship.
Same here, though I've followed the NFL for some years beforehand without commiting to any club....the Jets are it for me now.
Leon Washington plays bigger then he is. If he ran with the exact same speed and power but was 5'10'' 220 everyone would def'n be on board. Lack of prototype size is a concern, but players like Tiki Barber and Warrick Dunn have proven that you can be a great/durable back w/o being 215+ lb rb. I like the pick alot.
Dropping 9 spots and pickin up a 6th and a future 2nd is not a ripoff in any way; except, maybe one in our favor. Also, considering in the first post you never even heard of most of the guys we picked, I'd say that your view that we had a bad draft is pretty pointless. Reggie McNeal barely got drafted as a WR, but you prefer him as a QB to Clemens, because he's "so fast"?? Maybe if he had some actual QB talent it'd be worth it, because there's no way anyone would take him over Clemens.
J..... trading down the 35 for a second rounder next year was a great move.... don't know why you don't like that one. The CS did go up to Oregon to meet with Clemens after they met with Leinart..... this was the QB they wanted. So, they picked up a #2 and got their guy. This is no one year rebuild..... we'll be very happy we have that extra 2 next year. As far a Clemens goes, we'll have to wait and see, but we HAD to get a developmental QB THIS year. Jaworski called him a second round pick before the draft, and it looks like Minny was going to take him, so the Jets traded back up in the second round to get him. If he hadn't gotten hurt this year, many felt had he been at the combine, etc, he would have been the consensus #4 QB in the draft. Washington could be very good.... he was a great value that late. My complaint is we didn't get a RT and a NT, but, we had so many holes, it takes more than one draft to fill them. I'm not thrilled with some of the mid and late round picks, but I think it was a good draft.
Clemmons is ALOT better of a prospect than Whitehurst. IMO. out of the 2nd tier QB's, Clemmons is the most NFL Ready. And of ALL the QB's in the draft, has the best mechanics and has a vast amount of knowledge for the game. I could agree with being interested in Reggie McNeal, except at that point Brad Smith wouldnt need to be a pick. Brad Smith is slightly slower than McNeal but at 225lbs he will be making alot of plays after the catch i can understand though we all have a few picks we didnt like and couldve plugged another player in. mine wouldve been Max Jean Gilles over Schlegel (but Schlegel will be a solid pick as long as he becomes a roleplayer) Having Mangold, Gilles, and Brick on one side of the line would be utterly disgusting. Gilles wouldve made up for Bricks lack of the run block
