I think as long as we continue to pressure the QB and we HAVE to stop Chris Johnson this guy has been running wild this season so far, I was very impressed with him against the Steelers in the first week of the season, Sanchez has to continue to find his play makers and try not to make plenty of mistakes, I think Keller is gonna have a steller game this week btw anyone know if Bo Scaife is playing this week? thats huge if hes out
This is absolutely correct. I'm a little concerned still over our "run first" ability. Hutchinson correctly points out that "RB Thomas Jones has put up some gaudy numbers but they?re deceiving. He has rushed for 161 yards on 34 attempts (4.7-yard average) but 104 yards have come on five carries, meaning he has gained just 57 yards on the other 29 attempts (2.0-yard average). Were it not for several breakouts for Jones, his numbers are dismal. Is this the O-line or is it Jones? Ryan "called out" (not really) the O-line this week, so he obviously thinks they need to step it up and open up better lanes, but even one of the announcers in the game on Sunday mentioned that, on one of Jones' zero gains, that Jones might have "chosen the wrong lane." In any event, Jones seems to drop like a rock on first contact, or at least that's the way it looks from the angles I've seen. Even Leon up the middle has been futile. So my conclusion is that the O-line is providing good pass protection but can stand to do a better job opening lanes... just my opinion. I expect, after Ryan's comments the other day, that the O-line will be trying to do a better job of it on Sunday against a very stout run defense. We should be okay though. Kerry Collins is going to be one sore dude when the day is over.
This game will define what type of season we have. If we win and go 3-0 I can see us winning 11 or 12 games and dance to the playoffs. A loss and all of a sudden you go to New Orleans and that 2-0 start can easily be 2-2 and we'll be in a dog fight to make it. I'm confident this week though. I'd be kinda disappointed with a loss because I think we're better then the Titans. We're due to allow a TD but this is the weakest of the 3 offensives we faced in the first 3 games. Then again they have Chris Johnson who must be contained. You contain him and you shut them down. I'd like to see the offense get off to a quick start for a change and get some early points on the board. It seems like it takes us a few drives to get something going.
I think this is a winable game! I am worried that the team will get ahead of itself and underestimate the Titans. They have a talented D, a strong running game, and a good coach. We will need to bring it this week!
I agree, and so does Rex: "Anything less than our full preparation and our best will guarantee that we are not successful," said Ryan.
Awesome post 227 and I like what I hear. I get Rex Ryan knows how to turn his "trash talk" on and off whenever he sees it fit. Sounds like he's challenging our own OL for this week to turn it up if we want to win this game. I'm really starting to idolize everything about the Rex man. Great write up by Hutch as well, this game is going to be a tough challenge for us. If we shut down the run and dare them to attack us by air, we stand a very good chance.
Exactly what I have been thinking. I have pretty much marked off in my head a loss against the Saints in NO. If the Jets contain Chris Johnson this will be a blowout for the Jets no problem, however Johnson could practically win this game single handed if he does what he did against Houston to us. Jets will win this game I assure you.
Pittsburgh held him to 68 total yards, so it can be done. Houston's defense sucks, so last week was a perfect game for Johnson. We haven't allowed 100 yards rushing yet, so hopefully this will continue.
I've grown to respect Hutchinson's takes. He's usually pretty unbiased and well-informed and tells it like it is, good or bad. Of all the writers, I like him the best.
Sort of says the same kind of thing Hutch was saying , "beware wounded animals..." http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/jets-story-lines-1.1467559?localLinksEnabled=false
sounds like the Jets won't be blitzing as much this week Last season Chris Johnson vs BAL in 2 games ran for 116 yds on 29 attempts which was exactly 4 yds per carry. They held them to 23 pts in 2 games. If we do the same and keep them to 13 pts or less we'll win.
Its gonna be close, would be nice if the Jets wore their NY Titans throwback jerseys, as an extra motivator, of course.
They are wearing their Titans jerseys this week. Titans vs. Titans- Titans Jersey Schedule- 9/27 vs Tennessee - Blue 10/25 @ Oakland - White 11/1 vs Miami - White
