Yes it was a bit spotty on a few drives but overall we got great contributions from everyone. When you are noticing the play of guys like Smith, Gholston, and Coleman while getting the kind of play you expect from the stars like Harris, Scott, Revis, Jenkins...boy this is some kind of defense. This is what you need to win the big one. Can't wait till we are 100% healthy with Pace, Lito and Strickland back.
Gut-checking performance on defense. The offense was doing nothing for large portions of the game (including late in the 2nd half when we really needed them) and the defense got several huge stops in a row. I will say this though, we need to AT LEAST get lito back for the Saints game.
I agree. We are really gonna see how good our pass D is against the Saints. It will be a true measuring stick.
Blitzing I'd be interested to see the stats on how many plays we blitzed. Apparently it was around 70% and 64% respectively for the first two games. I'm pretty sure it was a lot lower this time to respect the run, but I may be wrong. Not a beautiful defensive performance (like the first two games) but the showed a toughness that doesn't show up in the stats. They could have easily folded in the second and third quarters, but they stuck around and waited until the special teams made a big play.
I also like how some of the back ups are contributinghoua,Strickland and Eric Smith come to mind. It's not one man,it's not 11 men,it's a gang.
Way to get every ounce out of the backup, Ryan is looking at Eric Smith like his dad used to look at Doug Plank.
This D is relentless they get to the QB and force bad passes. We didn't get as much pressure in the first 3 quarters but we did in the 4th when it mattered and they gave us another win.
Excellent point! Smith is solid in this defense. He's a fine young man, and I'm glad he is contributing.
The pressure the D puts on a QB in amazing. I've never seen a defense blitz 8 guys in a prevent situation before. And they put 6 or 7 guys on Brady in the same situation last week. I think maybe Ryan is ahead of the NFL on this one. Opposing QB's against the Jets so far this year: 47.9% completed, 4.72 yards per attempt, 49.9 QB rating.
the defense was awful the entire 2nd Q plus the first drive in the 3rd Q. After that first TD in the 3rd it was total lock down by the D. 0/13 in his last 13 passes! Damn!
Yeah that's part of it too. The stat that has me looking at it is 47.9% completed vs 4.72 yards an attempt. That basically means the Jets are shutting down almost everything but the outlets, and they're stopping those before they do too much harm.
The defense didnt have a great performance but they made plays when they had to.. Also we were greatly undermanned missing not only our #2 corner but that beast Calvin Pace. Scary thought is this defense should only get better as the weeks past. Lets go and btw fuck the Giants
