Was that pre-draft footage? If so, very interesting. He did say the same thing, along with Jaws after the Jets picked Clemmens. For all those who are doubting, obviously, this CS thought a lot of this kid. They were one of the first teams to give him a private workout before the draft, and this was on that country-wide tour to view all three of the "first-round" QBs. As far as what he said, he echoes what a lot of people have already said, and which I agree with. Young and Leinart are not great, and they may just bust. Cutler was the safest bet in the big three. As far as people who complained about the second round, I guess I was one of those "idiots" then? Thing is, I didn't complain about GETTING Clemmens. I complained about the moves we made, which looked like we were sitting with our collective heads up our asses. Trading down to trade back up looked like a totally asinine move. However, Exit117 had a great theory this morning, which made the move seem better than it appeared on the surface. People would do well to actually read other people's posts before throwing around insults. It helps to keep the egg off of their faces.
Say what you want about Hoge, but Ron Jaworski said the exact same thing about Clemens. The Jets made a great pick.
How do we know they were dumb comments? Would we be saying it was a dumb comment if it was the day after the draft in which Akili Smith was picked and he said Smith wasn't worth a 1st rounder? The Ryan Leaf draft? The point is, we don't know if it was dumb or smart until a few years from now when those guys have either made it or not made it in the NFL
Go to YouTube and view the Oregon tapes I was blown away by Clemens - he has poise, great instinct and a gun and he'll have D'Brick and Mangold some of his throws are magic - really someone posted the link in another thread but www.youtube.com is where all the OU games are posted as highlight reels
Merril was saying that he doesn't think either one was good enough that he would draft them in the first round if he were a Gm. he obviously knew they were going first round, he just thinks they aren't good enough to be worth a high pick.
That?s just their personal belief or judgment that is not founded on proof or certainty; I hope that Clemens is the real deal?I don't know a ton about Clemens but like the way the boys manipulated the draft to get him. Instead of reaching early in the 2nd they traded down, got the guy they wanted and have a 2nd next year! Peace out.
