The talk on Bourbon Street Greetings from the Big Easy. Arrived today on a flight filled with Jets fans (no shock there), but I was surprised by the lack of optimism among the green-clad faithful. From listening to the chatter on the plane, the feel I get is this: We're thrilled to be 3-0, this is a house-money game, let's have fun on Bourbon Street and we'll get serious next week for the Dolphins. Interesting. Anyway, here's the weekly six-pack breakdown of Jets versus Saints -- 3-0 versus 3-0: 1. Airing it out. Let's get this straight: the Jets do not want to engage in a shootout with Drew Brees & Co. No way. But, as you know, there's a chance it could evolve into one. The Saints' M.O. is this: Jump to an early lead, make the opponent one-dimensional and let the defense create turnovers. That would be the Jets' worst-case scenario. - Why not get into a shootout? We have (so far) one of the most accurate passers in the league, and receivers that have caught everyone off guard. BS has come up with imaginative schemes to keep opposing Ds guessing, I expect this trend to continue. 2. The San-chize. I went back and checked Mark Sanchez's college stats, and you might be surprised to know that he had only one game where he threw more than 38 passes. Did Pete Carroll have some kind of "Joba Rules" at USC? No, they were so efficient in throwing 20 to 30 times that it was usually enough to win going away. The point is, the concept of a shootout is foreign to Sanchez. - Huh!? You kidding me? The concept of Pro football was foreign to him as well until April, and the Kid has looked every inch the pro, on and off the field. In my mind a shootout would be relished by Sanchez, especially in dome conditions. 3. The spread look. I got the feeling from listening to O.C. Brian Schottenheimer that he's tired of facing eight-man fronts on a regular basis. He made a cryptic comment about doing something to "soften" the defense. That probably means a spread look, with more three-WR packages and with TE Dustin Keller split out as a receiver. That doesn't mean they're going to throw it all over the place, it just means they'd like to create more spacing in the "box" to help the running game. - Argh , we agree on something 4. Dinged secondary. The Jets got away with not having Lito Sheppard and Donald Strickland last week against the Titans, a run-first team that usually doesn't spread the field to create favorable matchups. It'll be a different story. Saints coach Sean Payton will find the weak link (or links) in the secondary, and go after it. You might hear Drew Coleman's name a lot on your TV or radio. - Read between the Lines. OK we might have ltd secondary, but if Brees doesn't have any time to go through his check downs and get the ball off early, he will have a similar game that Collins had. Collins has one of the fastest releases in the NFL  5. Special special teams. Mike Westhoff's unit had a huge game last week with two takeaways that led directly to 14 points. For an encore, they need to score. Paging Leon Washington. You're needed in the end zone. - We agree again, and once again, the dome will suit the likes of Washington. STs will be looking to strip the ball like they did against the Titans. Sure Westy will have something nasty brewing for Bush or whoever has the balls to line up. 6. To blitz or not to blitz? Classic matchup: the Jets blitz more than any team in the NFL; the Saints handle the blitz as well as any team. Will Rex Ryan go to a "soft" defense? Let me put it this way: Would you order a hamburger at Emeril's? No way. I think the Jets will bang around Brees a lot, but I also think he'll hit some big plays. - Uh , no. They may blitz alot and might not have registered alot of sacks, but pressures and hurries are as good as, and they are in plentiful supply. Brees will get the Tom Brady treatment, remember that game Rich? Oh BTW their starting LT is out, so expect overloads on the weak side, Ouch! Poor Mr Brees. Prediction: Saints 27, Jets 13. It'll be a rough game for the rookie QB. Record: 1-2. - What? For a Jets beat writer you have a really defeatist attitude. You must be like a bad smell entering the locker-room to the players. Prediction : 16 - 9 Jets Record : 4 - 0 Read more crap @ : http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/10/the-talk-on-bourbon-street.html#ixzz0Swjzr9Kg Last time Ryan Faced Payton....
Collins has one of the fastest releases in the NFL if him and Byron Leftwch are the only QBs in the league. Even then, it's only ONE of the fastest.
Last weeks preview vs the titans was in the same mold, he basically only pointed out how good the other team is and how bad the jets are, predicting an easy TEN win. Well, he fell flat on his nose and i hope he does again this week. What a shame E-Bola is gone, he was by far the best beatwriter.
His job is not to bring out the Jet pom poms, so what that he thinls we will lose? Is it crazy to think we could lose to the Saints on the road today? Obviosuly we are all hoping for a win but we aren't going undefetaed and this is one of the toughest games on our sched.
I agree that they should do everything in their power to avoid a shootout scenario. The Jets, not just Sanchez, won't win in a shootout. The offense goes cold for periods of time. It would also mean the D is getting slayed, which would be extremely bad. If they're going to lose a game, this would be the one.
I don't think it is too incredible to suggest we could lose this game, and the writer is right so far in as we do not want this to become a shoot-out. I love what I have seen from Sanchez, but nothing that this offense has really done this year has proven that we have the ability to compete in a shoot-out and win. Maybe they will surprise us, but I doubt it. My hope is we can strike quick and get a couple of scores on the board like last week.. that would be the best case scenario for us. But New Orleans is going to be a tough, tough win.
i think he spent too much time with a bunch of jet fans who are looking more towards getting smashed than expecting a win. see, me , on the other hand I always expect to win, even more while getting smashed. this is by no means anything resembling an easy game. hardest game on the schedule for at least a month IMO. but, were fully capable of winning this. and its time to take the fuckin field and go to work!
No, its his defeatist attitude that bugs me. Instead of being accused of fence sitting, he opts for the populist opinion, (so he can be, unfortunately right). He is a Jets beat writer and I expect a little bit more of a supportive, even green tinted bias from him , breaking short of pom-poms. BTW, I am one of the few here that actually think that on occasion he does write some good stuff. This wasn't it.
yeah, like I said earlier he spent too much time on that plane. Anybody who thinks we have lost all chances of winning cause of Lito and Strick being out. well hell, the defense might as well not even take the field than right? the fuckin attitude is retarded around here. I expect a win but I wont be surprised at a loss, its a hell of a team were facing in a true home field advantage. that being said, if our running game resembles anything remotely close to what we did last year, or if they want to stack 8 in the box and challenge Sanchez, we can win this fuckin game. I expect Brees to get big plays here and there it comes with being so aggressive against someone who reads defenses so well. That being said I expect Brees and Co. to get fuckin manhandled and turn the ball over once or twice. AND THE ONLY WAY THE SAINTS BREAKS THE 27 POINT MARK IN THIS GAME IS IF WE LOSE THE TURNOVER BATTLE AND THE SECONDARY HAS AN ABSOLUTE MELTDOWN. Our defense has too much pride to walk into a good opponents house and come out victimized. they will at least play for pride. time for people to man the fuck up. and I got a funny feeling a gholston sack might be on the way. thats probably what makes it funny as in laughable but yeah I said it.
Exactly, SOJs shit should be Jettisoned  I honestly think we will win this game and win it well, But I'm sure any die-hard Saints fan will be rightly thinking the same thing too. Whoever wins or loses this game, respect will be afforded.
I think we have a good chance to win this game, in fact I think we will win it. I do believe however that we will not go undefeated and we will lose at least 2 - 3 games. We will make the playoffs, more than likely win the East (we will know a lot more after this NE game today). This is a tough game though after two VERY tough games--MENTALLY. So we shall see what gang green does in N'awlins. Either way, this should be fun game to watch.. Go Jets!
Considering Brees has a better release than Collins, and has way better weapons too, you will hear Coleman's name a lot. This is a pure challenge for this talented Jets football team. win here, shock the NFL community. A loss won't have the same effect.
How about this........... I am putting a bounty on Cimini's head (sort of speak). I am offering up $100 bucks to the first Jet fan that kicks Cimini in the testes. Just offer up a video of it and 100 bucks are yours! Reggie Dunlop: I am personally placing a hundred-dollar bounty on the head of Tim McCracken. He's the head coach and chief punk on that Syracuse team. Jim Carr: A bounty? Reggie Dunlop: Yeah, a hundred bucks of my own money for the first of my guys who really nails that creep.
I think we will put enough pressure on brees that it will not be a high scoring game 17-10 either way.
I'm far more optimistic than Cimini that the Jets can get it done today...there were plenty of reasons that the Jets should've lost all 3 of their previous games and each time they've come out with a better gameplan, sharper execution, and gotten the job done. That said, if this game turns into a shootout then the Jets will almost certainly lose. This isn't just a Sanchez thing--the Saints win that type of game better than any team in the league. Playing right into their gameplan (forcing Sanchez to air it out deep and potentially pick him off) isn't going to work for us.
