Favre is still one of my favorite QBs regardless of all the garbage and what happened last year. I love watching him play and how he plays. Was a great pass, and he's still a great QB even at his age. It may have looked lucky, but it was pretty accurate.
I think 70% of that play was due to Lewis, the other 30% to Favre. That said, anyone who puts that pass in the "Hail Mary" category should seriously consider picking up a new sport to watch. May i suggest paint drying. Hail Mary's consist of at least 3 factors. 1.) The end zone is full of stationary defenders and recievers. 2.) The ball spends the majority of the time up in the air as opposed to a straight throw. 3.) The quarterback throws the ball "up for grabs" hoping for the best, as oppposed to throwing to to a reciever running in the end zone. If you have watched the youtube video/ and or saw the game live, and you still belive this to be a "hail mary", you either hate Favre, or you hate Favre.
I went with Fuck You WSW, yes the play was sick but I've seen it 999921481924 times over the past week and it hurt to watch it again.
He's a douche bag, sort of overrated, and I dislike him. But it was a damned good pass. Of course some luck is involved, but still. He had great awareness of the pocket and put the ball in a perfect spot. A ton of credit to Lewis for making that catch, it took incredible focus and athleticism. They get equal credit on a great play.
I know. I hate those announcers felating Favre. Lewis got open. Not a single mention of how great Lewis' catch was. It was all "FAVRE DID IT".
Err ... OK. Yes, Lewis was great too. But is it not possible for both to be great? Is it possible for that pass to be complete if both were not great? Watch the replay again. Think about this: If that pass had any less velocity, or was off two feet in any direction (up down left right), does Lewis have a chance in hell of making that catch. THEN come back and tell me it was all Lewis, the pass wasn't good too. Well put. People are letting their hate make them stupid.
This about sums up my feelings. It's a good thing Joe Montana threw "The Catch" because had Favre thrown it it would have been forever remembered "OMG Brett Favre!!!" Also, I voted Fuck you WSW, just because I could.
So you've changed your mind from yesterday from when I was a fanboy for thinking it was a great pass and it was nothing more than a lucky hail mary? Great pass, great catch. FU WSW has a lot of support.
By definition it was a Hail Mary because it was a heave to the end zone on the last play of the game. It wasn't a total fluke like the TD pass to Stuckey last year, but definitely some luck involved. And by definition you are a fanboy.
A hail mary pass would have had all the receivers in the endzone and a pass thrown up for grabs. Lewis was the only receiver in the endzone and Favre threw a bullet pass leading him to the ball. There was nothing Hail Mary about it other than they had to score and it was desperation time. There was also 3 seconds left on the clock when the play was made. They would have had a 4th down chance where a hail mary would have been thrown if that wasn't completed. If I'm a Favre "fanboy" then I guess you're a Penny "fanboy".
Here's where you go wrong. I've never changed my username to "Broadway Chad" and I was actually a much bigger Vinny fan than Chad. In fact I was pretty annoyed at first when they benched Vinny for Chad. But if they line up at QB for the Jets I'll root for them, even your hero.
Please, you run around defending Penny like he was some kind of great QB for us. I'm a Favre fan - he's one of my favorite athletes of all time. Of course I was stoked when we got him. If that makes me a fanboy, so be it. That doesn't change the fact that he threw a great pass to win that game for the Vikings. At least I'm a fanboy of someone who actually was great at some point in his career.
At times he was. Did greater things for us than any Jet QB except for Vinny since I've been watching, and that goes back to 1974. So yeah, when other Jet fans unfairly rip him I will defend him, absolutely. But usually while sitting down, not running around. Not for the Jets and not in this decade, but whatever. I'm a Jet fan, period.
