Probably camp fodder but could supprise nicely. AL Davis loves speed as much as I like writing players sizes and weights.

The fastest man now a Raider

Quick, name the fastest player on the 2005 USC roster. I?ll give you a hint: he can play multiple positions, and his last name starts with a ?B.?

    William Buchanon
    Wr | (6'3", 191, 4.38) | USC....from ESPN insider

Strengths: Upside is intriguing. He is tall with long arms and big hands. Shows excellent leaping ability. Can elevate and make some acrobatic receptions on jump balls. Possesses explosive initial burst and top-end speed, especially for a taller WR prospect. Is a threat after the catch if he can pluck on the run and find a crease. Shows some versatility -- has experience as a DC, FS, WR and PR.

Weaknesses: Has never settled into a role at a position. Is a better athlete than football player. Seems to lack overall football instincts. Is best suited to play WR in the NFL, but has much room to improve in terms of recognition skills, route running and overall technique. He fights the ball at times and does not show good natural ball skills. He has good height but is lean. Must add bulk and strength. Will struggle to get off the LOS versus more physical DB's. Must improve his array of release moves. Durability has been a problem throughout his career missed two games in 2001 with back injury, missed two games in 2002 with neck injury and missed four games in 2003 with back injury.

Overall: Buchanon's father, Willie, was a former first-round draft pick (Packers, 1972) as a cornerback from San Diego State. Buchanon played WR in USC's first two games as a freshman in 2001 before suffering a season ending injury (back). He began 2002 as a WR but was moved to defensive back early that season. Buchanon began the 2003 season as a backup DC but was moved back to reserve WR, where he saw action in seven games. As a junior in 2004, he played WR the entire season and finished with four caches for 15 yards. Buchanon played in 11 games as a senior in 2005 (missed the Washington game due to a straned hip flexor) and contributed on offense, defense and special teams. He finished with one tackle, one interception and one punt return. Buchanon is a naturally gifted athlete with an impressive combination of size and speed. His instincts are certainly in question after failing to find a position niche during his career at USC, despite being given the chance to develop as both a wide receiver and defensive back. However, Buchanon shined during his Pro Day workout, where he blazed a 40-yard dash attempt in 4.38 seconds and also showed explosiveness with his results in the broad jump (10'1) and vertical jump (40). In doing so, he may have earned a spot in the final two rounds of the upcoming draft. Buchanon's best chance of making it in the NFL is as a developmental project at the wide receiver position and we feel he is worth signing as a priority free agent if he does not get drafted.

I thought Reggie ran like a 4.29 or something.

That was R Bush supposed USC time and This Kid was timed faster by USC under 4.29. Regardless R Bush will most likely be special (dosen't get injured) and who knows how this kid will pan out. This Buchanon scouting report, sounds alot like J Porters.

Big hands? I guess that's okay. But let's be realistic - they only need to be big enough to wrap well around the handle on a churro cart.

Look, Jeaux, can we please stop talking about Crazy Al like he's still got some master plan?! I'm sure he's a wonderful old man, but he spends the first half of the morning arguing with his Cream of Wheat, and the latter part naming the colors staining his diaper - "Spinacheesey," and such. "Brownch"

The Raiders did improve that effervescent defense of which you always speak. Might even crack the low 20's. And, Michael Huff was my favorite player in this entire draft, but we didn't need to wheel Al away from his Bingo card to make that pick. Even I knew that the Raiders weren't taking Leinart.

But good luck with all those long-armed, big-handed, lightning-fast, insurance salesman you're signing up. William Buchanon? He's a peach!

Al must have been in a Cream of Wheat hallucination when he dreamt up that crazy "offer Jolley to the Jets to move into the first round" idea.

I also think it's a little funny that people are comparing the Jets taking the best OT and center in the draft with their first two picks to the "Patriots' smart approach". Let's see, drafting the best OT and center with your first two picks. Hmmm. Sounds exactly like what Al did two years ago.

Having said that, I liked it when the Raiders did it and I liked it when the Jets did it. I just hope we're all not sitting here in 5 years lamenting that we could have had Leinart. Although I have a feeling that the Raiders' deep passing game and the winds at the Meadowlands made him a less than ideal choice for both teams...

Right. Think 8th grade school dance circa 1978. We were desperate and whooped-up on Southern Comfort and teenage hormones; Al was the fat chick; Stairway to Heaven just started; and pretty soon mom would be outside with the station wagon. Time to get to work.
