sorry for the bumpage, but with ND just losing to Uconn, there's now a good possibility that the front office will legitimately be having this conversation

Prefer to promot Callahan, but he'd be an upgrade over Schotty Jr. He actually has a proven NFL track record.

If Weis returns to the NFL it will be in the Giants organization.

They would have to strategically place Ryan, Weis, and Jenkins around on the bus and plane for safety.

In '98, Parcells took over calling the offensive plays in the game because he didn't like Weis' calls. In '99, Parcells did everything but outright fire Weis and put Dan Henning in charge. The team finished 8-8 under Henning after the 1-6 start with Weis in control of the offense, it wasn't all just Ray Lucas.

So Weis goes to New England with Beli. By the Pats last Superbowl, Beli was calling the offense, because he didn't trust Weis either. So Weis takes the Notre Dame job. Despite being the single highest profile College coach at the biggest name football program, he somehow still can't get his act together.

This guy is the luckiest son of a bitch I can ever remember in coaching (next to Phil Jackson, maybe) He's been surrounded by great coaches and great players and somehow got all the credit for it. Its taken Notre Dame a few years to completely see him for what he is, although many there knew it from early on. And yet, just his very name still makes over half this board shoot a wad just thinking about having him on our staff. I just don't get it.

Ray Lucas only started the last 9 games in 99 and went 6 and 3. Rick Meirer stated 6 games that year. That was Parcells decision not Weis's.

Brady as good as he has been had almost no turnovers when Weiss was the OC including his playoff runs when the Pats actually won SB. Since Weiss is gone Brady has more turnovers in big games.

Brady Quinn probably isn't drafted on day 1 without Weiss as his College HC.

Vinny T who was an INT machine his entire career had his best TD to Int % and it's not even close in 98 with Weiss as his OC.

I like Dan Henning but he isn't available. I would take Weiss in a heartbeat he did a great job with Vinny T, Tom Brady and Brady Quinn.

I was fooled by Weis in NE too, I didn't realize at the time it was all Brady just like I was fooled BB was a great HC. Brady has made alot of average coaches look great.

Remember that Weis lost his playcalling duties in 1998 w/ us. We have a good OC now.

If he were added wouldn't he be perceived as a replacement? I can't see it happening.

I think if Shotty leaves, Matt Cavanaugh will be the new OC. Mark always throws him compliments when he talks about his development.

I would hire Weiss in a minute. His offense would indeed be a blessing for Sanchez.

That was part of my point earlier, though I didn't really explain. Weis' offense is solid, but not exactly innovative. He gets the genius label, but what has he ever invented? What he did have was good players executing a typical pro-style offense behind a superior offensive line with the '98 Jets, and all that plus Brady in NE. That does not mean he wasn't a good coordinator in terms of drawing up plays during the week and getting people on the same page in practice.

BUT...when it comes to calling plays in a game, he had that responsibility taken away from him not once, not twice, three times that I can remember over three different seasons. When was the last time you ever heard of a coordinator losing his playcalling duties in games and not only not ending up on the unemployment line as a result, but actually coming back over and over again to get another chance? Especially after '99, and come on Winston, do you really think Ray Lucas was the whole reason for that swing from being the worst team in the league to 6-3 to finish? One player, a QB who not only had no experience, but proved afterwords that he was indeed not very good at all? I give Dan Henning 100% credit for that turnaround; and if Weis had still been calling plays and running the show, we would have finished no better than 3-13. Everywhere he goes, Henning comes up with a way to win games on offense by putting people in the best position to use their talents. Ray Lucas; the spread set with Vinnie; the wildcat in Miami; hell, he even turned Jake Delhomme into a Superbowl QB!

And Junc, just as a note, I believe Henning didn't join Parcells staff until '99, it was BP alone who took over the playcalling in '98. Of course, I'm just going on memory there too, but I think he became QB coach and assistant HC in '99.

I do believe BP was calling tyhen plays but Henning was on the staff in '98, he was our QB coach in '98 and '99 before being elevated to OC when eis bolted w/ Belichick in '00.
