This is written by Greg Cosell of NFL Films. -Jets continued to align with 6 OL as a significant part of their offensive approach – That has become much more of a league trend -Sanchez still not seeing things at all: First pass drop on 3rd + 7 he had a TD to Clowney, who had beaten the press man coverage at the line of scrimmage and was open on a go route; The safety to Clowney’s side rotated fast into the middle – It was an immediately defined read, but Sanchez did not recognize it; He had no clear picture of the coverage, and then he moved and reacted in response to nothing -Sanchez frenetic and chaotic in the pocket, Not comfortable reading coverage and delivering the football – At times he looked like a panicked player]/b] -When Sanchez is on balance and the throw is quickly defined, the ball comes out well in the short to intermediate areas -Jones excellent pressing the hole, setting up second level defenders so that they can be in position to be blocked – Jones a very professional runner who understands defensive fronts and blocking angles’ Patience and vision -What the Jets did in this game was run out of spread formations, They did that so they could eliminate extra defenders in the box and create more natural seams -My biggest concern with Sanchez is a total lack of pocket toughness, He throws to avoid hits, No element of look down the gun barrel to his game -Jets played offense in this game to hide Sanchez and minimize his impact on the game – It’s clear they’re trying to get him through the season so he can take every snap and get the experience -Peppers was invisible in this game, A non-factor – He’s not a physical player, He’s more of an athletic mover; This game demanded point of attack toughness, and that’s not Peppers game -Edwards not a precise route runner, He does not help a QB – That was evident on Sanchez interception: Edwards ran a skinny post poorly, not widening to create separation from Gamble; The ball was not quite out in front of Edwards as much as it should have been, but this pick was more a function of Edwards than Sanchez -Jets OL was the dominant feature in this matchup, They allowed the Jets to control the pace and tempo of the game with the running game – Sanchez only 17 passes The things I bolded are the things that have stood out to me all season. It's been evident in every single game regardless of the outcome....even during the 3-0 start he was exhibiting these things. It should get better from the frantic/panic standpoint, but you can't teach toughness, grit, and determination (Gholston). Hits like the one he took against the Jags and a couple other hard ones this year will either bring out that fire and get you accustomed to what it's like in the NFL, or cause you to shy away and cower from that sort of contact. I'm worried that Sanchez is leaning toward the latter right now. He has the smarts and physical ability to do the job, but it's not always going to be a cup of tean in that pocket, even when you're winning. Imagine what his numbers would be like is he was on the Bears or Packers right now. The guy needs to understand that sometimes, even though you play QB, you need to come out of the game feeling like a linebacker or running back. If he doesn't, he'll only progress so far.
For the Panthers game, I noticed that Sanchez was only making 2 reads at a time and then dumping off to his check-down. It appears (at least for the Panthers game) they've scaled down his read and kept things simpler...again. This is more than likely a product of Ryan wanting to limit the turnovers and giving him less to work with. The less he throws far, the less the chances of INT's. I think with time, they'll let Sanchez go back to his flinging self again. But for right now, I totally agree that Sanchez needed to be told the overall scenario of the game. When they needed a conversion, when it was okay to take the sack, when to run it, etc. We haven't been great in pass protection so there's no new news there. I would be pretty jumpy in the pocket as well when Faneca and Woody are getting bull-rushed out of their socks at a much higher rate this year than last. I can't say Sanchez doesn't have or show toughness. There were a number of throws he made this year he made as the pass rush got to him. Matter of fact, him tweaking his knee and returning last game shows signs of toughness, grit and determination already. So, I'm not sure if this have a lot of validity to it.
Cup of Tea, not Tean. Sanchez does look frenetic in the pocket alot I think sometimes this is not a lack of toughness but a mental battle going on to learn that they prefer he not run and scramble immediately but hang in the pocket. It seems like often he wants to roll out or just run and he is somewhere between hanging in there and flat out scrambling. I think its wrong to question his toughness. I think he has displayed toughness running the ball and the fact he has missed one play 11 games into a season when guys miss time left and right is wrong also. I love the point about Braylon- he does seem to really round stuff off etc.....
They should do the same thing for the Texans game, the first Pats game, the Titans game -- obviously the guy is a bit gun shy now and is playing that way. When he puts a good drive together you see they talent he has and what he will bring to the table. This color system has him so conservative to not make a mistake I don't think he would even look at a receiver running a go route down the field.
the game has to slow down for him - i have not seen any progress in that area yet after 11 games. he actually looks more chaotic now than he did in games 1 and 2..... thats what a few NFL hits, interceptions, and darksiders will do to you i do expect that to change sometime next year - likely around weeks 7-9. jil
another member of the "grouch commitee" , bunch of know it alls, who get more pleasure in carving up and slaughtering others posts, rather then ever adding a good idea of their own.
As an outstanding member of the grouch committee (correct spelling) I resemble those remarks. Wackity Shmackity yooooooowwww.
He's got work to do, but an offseason with his job secure and his actual starting O around him will do wonders. Look how bad Eli was in year 1 and he won a championship fairly early in his career.
not trying to kick sand in your face over this, Todd....but more often than not, you put yourself in position to get flamed.
Just find it funny that there is such an "Air" of seriousness in a place that is suppossed to be a place where (atleast I believe) fellow Jet Fans go to "Vent" and get to be heard a bit. I make posts now and they dissapear in less then 5 minutes. I am the first too admit grammar and spelling go out the window sometimes. More often then not the content is better then much that is written on here.
They don't "disappear" into the ether, they get merged into the threads that the moderators feel they should have initially been in. For instance, here is your post from this morning that disappeared: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=1487705&postcount=70
So Edwards is responsible for another Sanchez INT? nice. Since he's been here the running game has been a lot better, but I think it caused Schotty to start using his new toy and began to overexpose his rookie QB. Fuck them both.
So my thoughts on the game tonight, are someone elses thoughts? Not sure why it is so hard to understand that many people who "dont" seem to be part of the little fraternity in here want their own thoughts to be heard. Its great to respond to others posts, but not sure what is the big problem with people feeling that they would like to "voice" there idea and hear response to it. I understand subjects might be the same but opinions and points of view can be very very different. People don't want to end up on page 6 of someone elses post when they feel they might have a different take or post on perhaps a subject that has been adressed. Yes everyone in here is guilty of not checking and making similar posts. We all follow the same team, read the same papers hear the same stories. It happens. When someone writes there opinion or thought on tonights game, why does that need to be merged into someone else's thread??
Your the Man!!! Problem I have its only about you and one other person on here who I have any respect for or listen too. Very Funny - Bravo!!!
A post that says "Hey we are going to Buffalo" covers all our thoughts on the game. Sorry if I did not want to be the 70th response- when 90% of the others were shots at canada, talks of ticket prices and buffalo wings.
