Jets looking to add RB ? By Rich Cimini Perhaps trying to send a message to rookie RB Shonn Greene, who fumbled yet again in Sunday's win over the Bucs, the Jets are hoping to sign RB Chauncey Washington from the Cowboys' practice squad. An announcement could be made by the end of the day. Greene has impressed with his running skill, but he has lost three fumbles in 71 attempts. That is simply unacceptable. Washington is a first-year player from Sanchez U. -- USC. He was a seventh-round pick of the Jaguars in 2008. He was released and landed on the Cowboys' practice squad. Because of injuries to Felix Jones and Marion Barber, he was called up earlier in the season and played on special teams. The Jets created a roster opening yesterday by waiving OT Ryan McKee. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/12/jets-looking-to-add-rb.html#comments
I have to agree with abyzmul with the comparison of fumbles to Jones in his rookie year. There are only a certain number of really good defenses in college that do well at stripping the ball where in the pros everyone has the ability and the defenses do hit a lot harder. It will be something Green needs to work on, but he has tremendous abilities and potential.
I agree as well, but it is still a huge concern that needs to be handled. We all saw last night in the AZ vs SF Monday night game what happens when you lose the turnover battle. Especially important in a ball control offense like we play.
Wonder if Sanchez had anything to say about this pickup... Ps Guy is big... 5'11 for 224. Thought we'd go after someone more athletic...
Much to do about nothing, Tiki was the poster child for fumbling early in his career, once he fixed the problem turned out to be one heck of a RB.
I was going to go the Tiki route too...that dude coughed it up more than anyone early on but he got it fixed and turned out to be pretty damn good. Shit...AP fumbles more than a kid in pop warner but when you have his explosiveness those things tend to get over looked. Greene will be fine. He'll do a ton of work in the off season with his coaches and get it fixed. Its not an unsolvable problem. Maybe Braylon can go with him.
Maybe this is more of a message trying to get Leon W. to agree to a reasonable offer now instead of shooting for over the top value after his injury ,and with T.J. having 1 more yr. under contract (and he deserves a better contract ) maybe the JETS want him resigned now before T.J. decides to test the market. getting them both back and B. Edwards would be smart moves by Mr. T. (I.M.H.O.)
Leon's total touches are probably closer to 300 in both of those years. between receptions, KR, PR, and the like, Leon is getting 10-20 touches a game those years. Heck he led the league in all purpose yards a year ago. Greene's touches are probably around 75 (71 carries, and a handful of receptions) for the year. so yeah major difference in touches per fumble between the two.
Exactly...slow news day + Cimini being a douche bag = this article. I'm sure they are trying to send him a message but I wouldnt look that much more into it. He's a third round pick who is going to be a foundation for the future. I doubt they're thinking about giving up on hm after a few fumbles. He's looked pretty damn impressive this far. I do have to say that I like the fact that each time after he's fumbled he's all but disappeared from the game. "Kid...if you're going to fumble...than you're not going to play"
JETS 1-2-3 punch (well "'3" when Leon was healthy) in the backfield is best in football. And big kudos to Tony Richardson as well. Mr. Greene is more than a suitable replacement for Mr. Jones.
Shonn i sadly feel will always have a fumbling problem. People compare him to TJ but they couldnt be more different. TJ has great hands and can catch a pass and run down field, so can leon. Shonn Greene cant take a piss without it slipping out of his hands and going all over his pants.
