this team just isn't ready to win. they left 9 obvious points on the field. sanchez had just made a great play to get them a first down in scoring position again when TJ got that 15 yarder and killed the momentum. if this team was capable of doing the little things they win today and they win 2-3 more games throughout the year. the whole team has yet to come together and play a complete game in all phases.
he's shown signs and has had great games you have your head up your ass if you expected him to come right in and make the pro bowl, and even further up if you think a bad rookie season means he is doomed (See Brees, both Mannings)
The offense was PATHETIC today! Jay Feely and the FG unit was ass today, if he had made 2 of those FGs we would have won.
Dude... I didn't expect him to come in and start, period. I absolutely didn't expect a probowl. What I do expect out of a starting QB is to manage the fucking ball. If you are not ready to be given the reigns to win games, fine, just manage and atleast learn from your mistakes. That hasn't happened. My argument is that he hasn't shown much potential for being that "franchise QB" we are all wanting to see. He has done the opposite of that. He is not Brees or Manning, I don't care what they did in their rookie seasons. I hate when people try to compare MS to those type of QB's. It's just silly. A bad rookie season for a QB is a lot more of a concern then most rookie positions in this league. You can really mess a QB up a lot of times if you try to start them pre-mature, it rattles their whole game. You can really hinder that much needed development process for a QB this way, and we'll just have to see what effect this season will have on MS. He has potential and the tools to be great. If he can apply that with the mental part of it then it will be a beautiful thing, this has yet to be seen.
our offense sucks, cotch and keller are not going to win you playoff games let alone get you there, spiller bryant? damian williams? anyone we who can run good routes please draft.
Are you watching the same games I am? The recievers are the least of the offensive problems. Drafting a WR would be a huge mistake, huge.
I disagree. Cotchery is an excellent receiver who isn't given many opportunities because the Jets mostly throw in obvious passing situations where the entire defense is teeing off on it. Schottenheimer's idea of tricking the defense is motioning Hartsock or Mulligan into the flat. We need to draft a pure pass rushing DE/OLB - someone like DeMarcus Ware to give our defense a real leap.
It's still to early to say he's not going to be like Brees, or one of the Mannings, just as it's too early to say that he is. My argument is just that it is too soon to write him off. As you said you didn't expect him to start this season, but what other option did the Jets have? At least now, next year instead of coming in with no experience, he has learned some and has the entire offseason for the coaching staff to help him improve.
Agreed. We have all the pieces to have an elite offense. Only question marks are... 1) Offensive Coordinator 2) QB position Those two things need to improve 10 fold in order for this offense to be elite.
As bad as some of the throws are that Sanchez makes, you need to take into account what position the offense is in when he makes the interceptions. So many times this season the pick has been thrown after 2 consecutive draw plays that amounted for 2 yards and then he has to throw on 3rd and long when the entire defense is ready for it. THIS is why Schottenheimer needs to be replaced. He did this with every QB he's had... we've seen enough evidence over four years to know the system isn't going to change. The system holds the offense back and makes it underachieve... the last thing we need is to be consistently underachievers. Replace BS.
Schotty's playcalling is consistent with having a gerbil up your ass. You never know what direction he is headed.
It doesn't take Vince Lombardi to see that Sanchez has his "moments" (of looking like a rookie that started 1.25 college seasons) but some of Shott's silly "trick" plays have to go! When I watch, it's the reverse Paul Hackett. Instead of overly conservative, you know it's going to be something stupid. Yes, Sanchez needs to learn to put more touch on screen passes and dumpoffs and such, but often he's not put in a position to succeed given his experience. I'm not a fan.
I just love it when they motion the fullback to the flat and then motion the tight end across just to run a draw play that gets stuffed. It's so predictable it makes me sick.
