If Holmgren takes the job in Cleveland and brings in his own coach, then Mangini maybe the first coach to be fired by two separate teams in two consecutive years. I do not recall this happening to any other coach of a team.
I'm in the minority that believes that Mangini will be a decent coach in this league, but who is Holmgren going to hire to coach other than himself? No big name coach will want to coach for him and of the assistants looking to move up, I can't think of any offhand that are in his coaching tree.
I don't get the Mangini hate on this board. He did way more good shit in his time as HC of the Jets than bad. Look at the team he inherited and the team he left us with...... The Browns woud have been a fucking mess this year with Lombardi himself at the controls. Mangini stocked up on picks for next season assuming he'll have time to build a decent team, which I guess he doesn't because the Browns are all of a sudden a 'win-now' organization.
I think most of the hate is on his hard ass coaching style more than anything. He seems kinda like a prick, but as a coach he has more upside than down.
Last two posts are spot on. Mangini is hated because he's a hardass and because he helped contribute to the decline last year. If he were amicable like Ryan or Herm, he may have lasted past last year. He wasn't, so bye bye.
With the exception of Gholston, Mangini did leave us with a lot of talent that we aquired through the draft...he was gearing up to do the same thing in Cleveland, but probably won't make it.
I'm not sure what he could have done about the end of last year. As we're seeing again, if you have Favre in there he's calling the shots even if he's fucking up, so the coach's hands are tied. Until that happened nobody was saying Mangini's a bad coach, nor was his record bad.
