If the Jets lose next week to the Bengals (I don't mean to jinx it - just posing a hypothetical), is there some combination of losses by other teams that still gets the Jets in the playoffs?
Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I THINK the Jets can still lose and get in - but only if the most unlikely series of events happens: PIT over MIA (Pit would be 9-7 and seed#5 MIA would be 7-9 and out) KC over DEN (Den would be 8-8 but I think we'd still have tiebreaker) OAK over BAL (Same as KC over DEN) NE over HOU (HOU would be 8-8 but we beat 'em) CLE over JAC (JAC would be 7-9) That's about the definition of impossible so I wouldn't bother hoping.
For some reason that puts Pitt and Denver in the playoffs, I dont know why but thats what yahoo says.
The Jets have the tiebreaker over the Broncos if they are both 9-7 because the Jets would be 4-1 against common opponents and the Broncos would be 3-2 giving the Jets the tiebreaker. However, if they are both 8-8, both teams would be 3-2 against common opponents meaning the next tiebreaker would be strength of victory which the Broncos would have over the Jets.
