DE dosent take time to train to OLB. See: Shawne Merriman/ DeMarcus Ware.

    Merriman 57 tackles 10 sacks 0 int

    Ware 58 tackles 8 sacks 0 int

They put up big numbers on sacks but other than that their inexperence shows in stats. I have a feeling that Greenway in his rookie year in our system would end the year with 90+ tackles, 8+ sacks, 1+ ints. I know it sounds like something little but i would love to have a playmaker at the OLB position. I don't know if anyone agrees thats just how i feel.

Theyre 3-4 OLBs, thats mostly what theyre required to do. Check out Willie McGinest and check out his #s...very similar, and i doubt youd call him inexperienced. Hes a 3-4 OLB that does his job and does it well, just like Merriman and Ware

THEY BOTH PLAY THE SAME POSITION. What good would that be? Talk about a wasted pick.

Chad Greenway you are the first poster to mention his name. Interesting prospect. Maybe because his last name is GREENway. he's impressive could be a killer LB.

I was always against taking a QB in round one. I wanted Croyle in round 2 or 3 or maybe Whitehurst. But that was when I thought we'd keep Pennington. If Pennington is going to be cut, we need to take Cutler if he's there (or Leinart, obviously). QB is the first position to address for any rebuilding team as long as it's feasible to do so.

Totally agree--offense first in this draft, especially Qb and OL.

Everyone has seen how our backup LB's played last year they did a good job filling in, we can easily use any of our current lb to play i the 3-4 we dont need aj hawk. We need help in the offense. And if we were going to go defense mario williams is the way to go.

We dont start a new regime with a linebacker! Cutler is the pick!

I really don't see the logic behind these "Hawk will be a Jet" threads. Just because you want it to happen doesn't make it logical in any way, shape or form.

Agreed...Hawk to the Jets would be nice if we had any players on offense, but sadly we don't. That 4th pick must go towards the offense.

He's the source of most of those issues.

If we draft Hawk with the #4 pick, I will no longer be a fan of the Jets. Not because I don't think Hawk is a good player... we just have more important holes to fill.

You can debate which offensive player or whatever and I guess you can do the same for deffensive players too. However you should NOT debate which side we need to address first. OFFENSE not Defense. The D may not have been great but that was in part to our sucking the way it did on O. I don't want Cutler or Brick. Not at 4 at least. That kind of pick should be used to get someone who brings something special to a team like a Young or a Bush. Anyway, the are certainly more opportunities to utalize our #4 pick on th O side than we could get from drafting ANY D player at that spot.

To be honest with you..I still think we trade the pick and drop down to middle first round. I also think we get another early 2nd or late first for John Abe. We will pick up a linebacker early, and I also like Carpenter but dont know if he will still be on the board. Mario Williams would be interesting, but then we would start to see some more cap issues in a few years with this guy. So we really need to either pick a cost effectieve solution with #4 (ala AJ Hawk) or trade it down so we can stockpile and get out of top 10 like dollars.

One of the best posting in a long time. We need two bookend tackles. Face-it we are rebuilding. Our main focus must be OL. Average QB and RB can do well with a time with an outstanding line. Over the years we have had undersize linemen. We need size and athleticism on the line!!!

Additionally, I hope EM backs-up the strength coach. I think many of our injuries can be traced back to the lack of a good strength and conditioning program. Herm had a lackadaisical attitude about that program.

I'll second Daryl Tapp later on in the draft, big guy with explosiveness who knows how to make the big play

Let me shut this thing down. We need Max-Jean Gilles and he must be our second round pick if he's there. Thats it. Now the question is this, do we want a defense like the ravens, bears or a offense like the chiefs. If it was up to me I'll trade down a spot or two and draft Hawk and pick up Max-Jean Gilles in the second. Max-Jean Gilles will be good for our aging o-line and Hawk will rejuvenate our defense.

    Defense wins Superbowls
