I'll try to update this thread as much as I can putting in the names (and info if I find them) of all the low profile acquisitions we get during the off-season. I'm not including players already on the team but with marginal value like Woodhead or Turner (who have already re-signed BTW). Just to keep the site tidy and not have a new thread every time we sign an unknown player add him to this thread... much like the underclassman declaration thread for the draft. Thank you Here goes: Marcus Henry - WR - Kansas - 3 yrs (327k, 412k, 497k) - http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/player/1338-marcus-henry Tanner Purdum - LS - Baker - 3 yrs (327k, 412k, 497k) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanner_Purdum Ezra Butler - ILB - Nevada - 2 yrs (320k, 405k) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ezra_Butler_(American_football) Brannon Condren - S - Troy/NFL - 1 yr (470k) - http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/player/1516-brannon-condren Jason Davis - FB - Illinois/NFL - 1 yr (395k) - http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/player/1501-jason-davis Larry Taylor - KR/PR/WR - Connecticut/CFL - 1 yr (320k) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Taylor_(Canadian_football) S.J. Ok, thread finished anyone know the difference between a future contract and an actual contract? Thanks!
We have Ezrah Butler? Who knew? He's not a bad practice squad or w/e LB to have... I wonder if Conley can actually punt and Davis can play WR.
I found these very cool vids about two of the guys we signed... Marcus Henry (already on the PS and drafted by the Jets): Ezra Butler (signed this year): There is also a piece on Dwight Lowery which is interesting IMO (and spot-on):
From what they said about him in the vid he seems to be very useful in rushing situations which is exactly what we need!
Out of all of them i feel the biggest successes coming from this core could pan out to be Britt Davis and Ezera Butler. I have high hopes for alota these guys in all honestly
I think Butler can become a very very good ST player... and I also liked Britt last year... let's see if this year he pulls his act together. One under-rated guy in there is CB Bo Smith... apparently he was a very good CB at Weber State but since it's a small school he didn't get drafted and decided to try his fortune in the CFL... and now he's coming back... Since we need DB depth I'd like to see how he pans out!
I agree, IMO Butler could be the next Larry Izzo on ST if Westoff utilizes him well. Also, With Rex's Training he could become a serviceable back-up at ILB for Harris and Scott. As for Bo Smith i have heard little of him but he seems to have good size and according to this if he gains the proper training from the right coaching staff he could be a steal pick-up
Added Tanner Purdum, LS who spent the 2009 season on the KC Chiefs PS. Everyone is saying this guy will be our new LS after Dearth mis-snapped a few balls last year. Plus he'd be making around 1 mill while this guy probably signed for the league minimum. Tanner Purdum’s Journey to the NFL Monday, July 20th, 2009 longsnap1 I have often said that every long snapper in the NFL, and to some extent even in college, has an interesting story about how they became a successful snapper. Recently, there is another inspiring story of a long shot player making it at the highest level of football. Tanner Purdum is the likely snapper for the Chiefs this year and, as mentioned in a prior post, he has taken an unconventional route to the NFL. Purdum graduated from Baker University in 2007 and spent time as a snapper and quarterback. A bit light coming our of college, he started to add weight and spent a season at Avila University as a graduate assistant, before returning to Baker as a graduate assistant in 2008. During this time, Purdum kept working hard and training to snap in the NFL. Last year, he had workouts with the Packers and Seahawks and attended pro free agent combines run by former NFL kicker Louis Aguilar. He also sent out 128 homemade DVDs to multiple staff members at each NFL team and one such DVD got the attention of the Kansas City Chiefs. After a workout with the Chiefs, Purdum was signed shortly thereafter and, with Thomas Gafford waived, Purdum is the lone snapper in camp. I recently spoke with Purdum about his remarkable story and how it demonstrates that hard work and dedication can help in achieveing your goals regardless of where you come from. Any snapper looking to play in high school, college or the pros can learn from Tanner’s story of perserverance.
I think Lowery should be used like Antrell Rolle as the S/CB hybrid type...Sucks guys like that get hurt by these pansy NFL rules.
Don't think so... he's been on the PS for the Jets the last 2 seasons after being drafted in rd 6 in 2008.
Should he shine in TC, it would be interesting to see him in pre season. Not consistent enough I'm guessing
Litte to no spereation on his routes. He's a big target with soft hands that could probly be covered by most NFL D-linemen.
