Per Espn, leaves me thinking what is San Diego going to do with there running back situation, with LT gone and now the possibility of Sproles leaving. I'm guessing a trade is coming..... maybe the Jets?
They WANT to draft Fresno's Ryan Mathews or Clemson's CJ Spiller. It's possible that neither will be around when they pick though. I think Mathews will end up in Houston and Spiller will be a Seahawk. They could go after Leon Washington...it's definitely possible.
I just dont see them letting Sproles walk to essentially give up a 2nd on the same type/caliber player. It doesn't make sense....
Neither does letting Tomlinson AND Sproles go. The only backs with NFL experience left on their roster are small school fullback Mike Tolbert, super-bust Michael Bennett and potential powerback Jacob Hester.
I would disagree with the Seahawks going RB. I think they are comfortable with Jones and the emerging Forsett at that position. If anything, the Seahawks should go Oline, isn't their LT hurt? I would hope the Jets keep Leon. He could be the final piece of that offense. He could be that late gamebreaker they need if they keep the same offensive gameplan next year. Jones is a year older, Greene is emerging, and Sanchez needs a safety valve. That is Leon. I think he is that important.
I remember hearing a year ago that the Chargers are very high on Jacob Hester. I'm not sure if they meant as a ball carrier or a blocker though.
If they go after Leon, we'll have to make serious moves to keep our offense intact. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee that LW sticks around (at least without the chance of having to overpay). I would hate to see him go without our at least trying to get something in return.
If both LT and Sproles sign decents deals and the Bolts are able to draft a good back, they will be in decent shape to sign a FA or two with DS and LT leaving it helps them circumvent the final 8 rules. This is also a good thing to think about with the Jets. If Jones is cut and signs elsewhere, we will be able to spend that type of money on another FA. The better thing for us is we have better RB depth to play that crd if need be.
The mistake there was letting him walk for an aging LT. backs fall off so fast in this league is scary. If you can only keep one, keep the young guys is the lesson learned. I think they should have done mroe to retain The burner, but in the end its AJ simths fault that the team is in this mess.
Yep they are going to regret letting Turner walk. Smith the self described genius was way too smart for his own good, go figure.
No. Waived players do not contribute a FA spot, and I'm not positive untendered RFAs do either, although I had a different impression when I first read the F8P. We gain nothing for releasing TJ. The Chargers, however, as a 5-8 team, do still have their exemption UFA signing. They could make a run at Chester Taylor for whatever that's worth. I don't understand the move to let both backs go in any situation, though. EDIT: Actually, reading Section 4 again, the language isn't as explicit as that in Section 2. It's possible that untendered RFA's and waived players DO count as replaceable players. Interesting, since I've read quotes to the contrary.
Since I'm not willing to create a "Should We/Could We" thread, I'll ask here. Rotoworld is reporting that the Chargers will put a 1st/3rd Tender on Merriman. We need a pass rusher built for the 3-4. Would it be worth it for him?
